Forgive me if this has already been posted, but I don't have a D3/D4 so I don't follow this area of the forum at all.

Anyway, Here is a long term review of the D4 and a bit of a comparison to the RRS.

Thanks Dave that was great!

I have seen stuff before from that guy - hes funny.

See the recovery vehicles at 1.50??

Cheers:D

PS. Everyone just needs to cover their ears at about 4.45 when he bags 18 and 19inch wheels on an offroader - wasnt me!!!! :)

Someone needs to show him a D3, D4 with LLAMS. :D

Notice the D4 has General Grabbers AT's fitted.
I wonder how they went for punctures?

No punctures, and he kept his tyres at 3Bar to prove a point to himself. He said after the trip, that he suffered no more tyre skidding than the Defenders did.
I am not aware that the Defenders were used to recover him!!
Don.

Im sure he would have said if the Defenders were used to recovery him...I was just stirring the pot harmlessly.

After watching that review, watched the new FFRR off-road test drive. Impressive, especially as they appear to be on 20" and on-road tyre pressure.

The new RR has 20" rims, but it has room enough under the guards to fit larger profiles on them, eg 50 or 55.

Gordon

It also has 900mm wading depth vs 700mm in D3/D4 vs 500mm for Puma... but the price... ouch! :D

Was the FFRR test you watched one of his? I could not find it.

That was a good well thought out video.

Also while Ive never driven a Rangie Sport but everybody I know who has driven both say that as a drivers car the Sport is significantly better than the D4. I don't know what you others who know more think but I think he may have overplayed the "very exxy Disco with less room" card.

No the FFRR off-road test drive wasn't his; there were a few "suggested" videos that came up after watching his.

Maybe that's why it is the most awarded 4WD - ever! :p

I test drove a new 3.0 MY12 Range Rover Sport six months ago, it felt really cramped inside compared to the D3. Most everything he said about them I would agree with, sure it drove well, but it didn't feel much better and I could not see the value.

A mate of mine bought one new 12 months ago, after driving it for a while he was so disappointed in its trim/feature level that he went back four months later and traded it on a new Luxury spec model.

cheers,
Terry

Had my RRS (MY 12) for a while driven a few km's, never had a problem with the navigation system. What is the problem with it ,have I just been lucky so far ?.

There's nothing wrong with it as such. It works but it lacks the features of many cheaper hand held units and its calculations on trip duration are not accurate etc. It is also out of date - we are using V16 of Whereis maps and they are currently up to v19.

I think in the case of the review, SA may well be worse off than we are with the currency/accuracy of their maps hence him not being able to find the address.

Edit: This post sheds a little light on why we are behind on map versions:

I wonder where / why he rates the FFRR Vogue as superior to the RRS/D4 (whereas he doenst rate the RRS as much better than the D4....assume in terms of on and off road dynamics the L322 FFRR isnt THAT much better is it? Oh, I am assuming, from the age of the video, he is talking L322 (last of the series) not new L405 model RR). I guess the 8 speed auto and the 4.4TDv8 are the key issues and he obviously loves the split tailgate...is there much after this apart from the "image" thats ets the old L322 apart from say a 8 speed auto D4? (and I am actually a big fan of the FFRR ;) - I just cant afford one..yet...)

More ground clearance for similar wheelbase. TDV8 !

Watched the video - reviewer complained about the sun glare on some of the chrome interior trimmings - my wife finds especially the large chrome surround on the gear selector can become quite glary with the sun at right (wrong) angle. Does anybody else find this? The only remedy I can think of would be to replace it with a wood trim. Any ideas where you can source this? Thanks

Yep, the angle that annoys me the most actually has the reflection coming up underneath my sunnies. I've been thinking of anodizing the trim, but of course it's just plastic!

The new FFRR I just saw in Lance Dixon was fitted with 255/55/20 tyres and so are of larger diameter. Don't know whether there is a smaller rim available. If there is then there will be plenty of sidewall.Hopefully they will carry that thru to new sport and D5.

By the way the car looked absolutely fantastic. Better in real life than in photos.

That is excellent news Jools re the new wheel/tyre size on the new Rangie, as that means if that size is carried over to the new Disco then 33" tyres will legally be able to be fitted in most States.
