Hi guys, so I'm loving my Disco Td5 but I'm getting worries about this Oil Pump Bolt stuff. Do I desperately need to have it changed, or should it be fine by now? Cars got 265,000 kms on the clock if you were wondering.
Ben.

Each to their own, and others may disagree, but when I bought my wee beastie at 130K, I had a pretty thorough going through done just for my piece of mind and to create a datum point. That included oil pump bolt, hoses, drive shafts/coupling, all fluids changed, fitting Provent, purchase Nanocom/Rave/Microcat, EGR, low coolant alarm, MAF - and then I started on the mods for towing/touring.

It's an hr of your time for piece of mind done with an oil change or $5k plus if it hasn't been done.
If the previous owner can't confirm it being done just do it.
Plenty of posts on the topic.
IMO (said with politeness) no sympathy for someone aware of a potential failure who is reluctant to check.
Cheers

We own 2 TD5's...one shed it's bolt and nearly destroyed the engine..the other was checked ---NO LOCTITE either ..keep an eye on the spot for the oil light until you get it done..

If your thinking about it, do it.
I did mine recently and found it was already nice and tight with loctite applied. At least I'm not thinking about it anymore...

I was aware Didn't do it until it happened to mine had 270000km on it, had no damage from the bolt falling out, while I was under there I changed the bottom end barings noticed the motor ran a lot quieter - relatively easy to do.
Cheers

The bolt won't hurt t:eek:he engine,,its the lack of drive to the oil pump that destroys it..unless you see the oil pressure light come on an:eek:d shut it down. It hurts to drive with your fingers crossed.

Hi Guys, Just purchased a 2004 TD5 S.
It has an engine number of 16P23305A.... Should I be checking the oil pump bolt or did they have it sorted by this this time? The VIN is dated 09/04.

Td5 Oil pump bolt = Russian Roulette
my MY05 defender was just finger tight when I purchased it at 125,000km.
