Well, Decided yesterday that I could not put of the inevitable any longer. The weep from the TD5's pump was growing :(. So into it and man! :o what a learning curve about hidden bolts, nuts and just how tight a 40nm bolt is after 225000Ks  but I prevailed, cleaned, replaced , polished and buffed, well not the last 2 :D Refilled the coolant and retired for a coffee :)
Returned to finish off..........and hang on , whats that water.......? Drip dripping from the weep hole again! Checked and yes thats where its coming from! Sooooo I felt like doing a Henry VIII on it but restrained me self partly as that is a bigger job and dismantled it ALL again! The new spanker of a pump is faulty!!;) water is making its way out the weep hole in it. So a days work for nought! :(
So replacement due on Friday,Tomorrow being ANZAC . And I was planning on being in Millmerran for the weekend. Gonna be dang tight schedule now!
Just goes to show Murphy is alive and well! Oh and Eurospares? Dont touch! Bit hard when that was all I had though......;)
Cheers Scott

On the bright side it didn't let go halfway to Millmerran....I replaced my pump with an aftermarket recently and redid less then 10K later with a genuine for the same reason....I know the feeling

Yes, although I did not get it off him :) but off another "forest Glen" mob :D and was assured they give a good run!!:o Having said that I have had really good runs out of aftermarket pumps on the series and on holdens and falcons, just I think now a days the workmanship of the aftermarket brigade has taken a nosedive ahead of profits!
Divorce the Disco or behead it? :p
HeHe the beheading bit! But as I said, that involves more work!:Rolling:
and you r the only 1 to pick up on that ref! :p

Hello,
It makes me laugh everybody bitching about cheap parts...... non genuine ones you take the risk...............cutting corners usually doesn't work
Do not get me wrong we are all looking for a bargain, but when you get burnt it is not the best to blame the vender selling it is you it is you for buying it, take a bit of responsibility so before buying anything think a bit......not only for Land Rovers.
Ian
PS. I also have got dud parts in the past .....

Yeah, I know that, but to say something is used in the shop and gives good service whilst it seems not in the real world is a tad misleading.................After all the customer to a large extant does rely on advice given, certainly for items that you may only replace in 200000kms. Why stock an item that does not give 1/2 way service? and in reality it was only a bit over 1/2 a genuine.
As I said in the past have had good service from falcon, holden, and Series aftermarket items, just some of the new stuff lacks.

Are you referring to us???
Have you ever purchased from us, as we haven't had any claims from you? or is this just stirring the pot because you've stung by another vendor, or is it one of those heard it from my wifes brother inlaw who heard it from some in the pub that heard it from a friend.
If you have an issue with any product we sell let us know. We don't run away.
Getting back to genuine , we sold a Brand New Genuine top hose for a TD5 Disco in Sept, the customer only just fitted it, and advised that the Hose was squirting coolant out of the moulding join at the bleed screw holder.
We replaced it immediately free of charge. Another claim for us to Land Rover for a faulty Genuine part reimbursement.
Don't assume that Genuine is trouble free , because it isn't like anything you buy these days.
Take the Genuine 300TDi vaccum pumps, they crap them selves, the fault was never addressed , so an aftermarket pump came out to to resolve this.
Of course you'd realise that as you sell Genuine parts.

Agree with you there on genuine bits Roverlord, and I must say your service is good , can not complain :) But then I am not complaining about the service of others either, just saying they could be overlooking a problem in regard to a particular item. Service wise they replaced it instantly, just that where I am and ANZAC day in between means its 3 days to get here! :) This thread was started to just detail what I did, NOT to start a bad supplier / good supplier debate.

Thank you Ian. It's up my goat when people have a bad experience with a particular product then bag every other product as being the same.
As far as aftermarket parts there are many, Britpart, Bearmach, Eurospares, Airtex, AP BRAKE, VALEO say for eg.some one gets a dodgy Britpart spare and they then bag every other supplier and assume their all the same.

Some sellers inform their customers as to what grade of part is being sold: Genuine, oem or a first tier parts manufacturer, or pattern part.
This allows purchasers to make an informed decision as to what they are buying. I refuse to purchase parts from any seller that does not provide this kind of information.
If sellers flog stuff without giving purchaser this kind of information they have to expect people to lump all aftermarket parts together good or bad.
Whether that applies to Roverlord or not I have no idea.
And afaik forest glen is a ref to a Qld seller.
Cheers

HERE'S one for the books: I bought my replacement pump, cheaply, on sale from an aussie vendor. I have purchased from most aussie sites and deal when I have time from the UK as well, being a reasonable distance from a LR specialist I have at times had to perform the delicate and at times frustrating repairs on my D2 on my own. So when it came to replacing the power steering pump and therefor the harmonics as well I decided to replace the water pump too!!! The replacement pump would not fit I managed to crack the housing so I used the old one and just transferred the o rings -----still going strong 12 months later---- I still have a spare in the shed but do not at the moment need to or want to torture myself unneccesarily again,my fingers are crossed,I have no coolant leaks in the area and have learn't something about my D2: if it's not broke don't touch the bloody thing!!!!!!!!!!:D

My post related to sellers promoting substandard parts . I don't buy replacement parts just because they are cheap. Regarding the water pump that failed after a short time..I asked both sales staff and mechanics at this particular place their opinion . Both assured me they had never had one come back and put them on lots of customer vehicles . Now it seems they're are continuing to sell them and with the same assurances. I have fulfilled my responsibility as a buyer by getting this advice about the parts quality and reliability. Its then the responsibilty of the seller to be bloody honest with me or anyone else. STOP SELLING DODGY PARTS AND STOP SAYING THEY ARE OKAY.

When I purchase non genuine parts I expect the seller to be selling parts that meet a certain standard. Now it is fair to accept that a non genuine part might not last as long as an OE part, but they should still perform and last a reasonable time. Occasionally you will get a faulty part and this can also happen with OE.
I purchased a water pump from Repco last year for SWMBO's fairlane. It started to leak after 5,000 km. I could not find the receipt so had to cop it. I got another Repco branded pump. It comes with a two year warranty so it must be reasonable quality.
A couple of years ago I pulled apart a falcon water pump to use the bearing for my TDI fan. It was a non genuine pump and the bearing was a smaller diameter the genuine pump bearing.

Well , the pump was in the mailbox at lunchtime, So its in and filled :) No leaks :D YeeHa!! Im sure I can do it blindfolded now! :) Just have to put the new belt on in the morning , ran out of daylight.
Put a new top rad hose on too, and some worm clamps! Dunno why any1 would want those spring clamps, Near impossible to fit easily in close confines. There was mention somewhere of people doing the bleed screw up too tight, Well I changed the new over to my brass 1 and holy mackerel :o the plastic 1 was so tight I had to use pliers to loosen, The screw slot just turned out! It is a genuine L/Rover hose too. Anyway should be good for a few ks again now. just some pics of the pumps and housing, No corrosion evident anywhere after 228000 either .

What you see is all thats left! And its is only there because the heads in the allen bolts turned out when I tried to remove them so I just blanked it at the cooler inlet. When(if?) I ever do the exhaust gasket I will tackle them again.

With the correct band clamp pliers they are very easy to fit. The pliers lock with the clamp open, you position the clamp and release the lock. Much easier than rooting around with worm clamps.

Yes I thought as much But out here in the sticks back of whoop whoop and the far side of the black stump :) I have never seen them let alone used. And after all these years of worm clamps they are second nature now :D Do you have a pic of said clamp pliers?

That's the type although Hazet gear (not Hanet) is a tad pricey.
I picked set of 2 cheap pliers from ebay, but the one I use is like this:
HOSE CLAMP PLIER--SWIVEL HEADS SUIT FLAT BANDS--RATCHETING LOCK--NEW | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOSE-CLAMP-PLIER-SWIVEL-HEADS-SUIT-FLAT-BANDS-RATCHETING-LOCK-NEW-/290901764978?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43bb18ab72&_uhb=1#ht_723wt_924)
The other clamp type that is really common on the D2 is Clic-r. These turn up on things like the fuel cooler on the Td5, the radiator bleed hose, ACE/power steering resevoir, etc.

I have been dealing with Roverlords for over 2 years , I have recommended them to several friends who are also more than pleased with the service , I find his sales service and after sales service second to none  , I have never had a broblem with any of his products if genuine or after market and if I did I would not hesitate to contact them either by phone or email , I would certainly never bag him on a public forum , Word of mouth can do a lot of harm , Key board warriors need to get a life and harden up :2up:
