Hi all I am wondering if anyone has a spare windscreen to firewall bolt for a Series 3. It is the one that allows the windscreen to stay attached and tilt forward. I have included a picture. Shoot me a PM if you can help. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Matt

Matt - we're having a meeting (with Arthur Goddard - co-inventor of the Land Rover) on Wednesday evening and several of the attendees (and anyone is invited) will no doubt be able to help you....I'm sure we can get you one....that's what we do - Series Land Rovers. :) Leave it with me....:)

Thanks Dan that would be great. Pete has one for me but would be handy to have a spare.

Asking around, it would seem that an S3's bolts are probably unf. Perhaps Pete can confirm. If all you need is a spare, the suggestion is to try a bolt shop.....Off the shelf bolts should fit. :)

Can I reply in here?

A standard bolt wont fit (properly) as they have a larger shank for the pivot.

Believe it or not, I think they are M8. (Mine are from a stage 1 if that makes any difference when comapred to the older ones?)

Here you go Mick.

Sorry I only had a few mins to do this while I had a late lunch. I am still unsure whether the earlier series 3's would have had metric threads. My stage 1 definetely does though.

It looks like it started out life as a 3/8' bolt, how many do we want?

Cheers, Mick.

I thought that too to start with Mick, but it has the metric HT grading system on the head as opposed to the imperial one. (8.8 in this case)

Its a very strange bolt :D

45 quid through Craddocks so I'd tend to agree!

Part No 346989 UNF
MRC6074 Metric (No date given for change)

I would guess that the UNF one is an off the shelf 3/8" bolt, but the metric one is a special because of the requirement to have a 3/8" shank rather than 8mm.

I reckon I could make it for a bit less than that.:)

Japanese m10 (jis?) will be a 14mm head and shanks are likely close to 9.4mm. But they don't use the decimal strength grades either.

Well unfortunately I need the imperial version. So I am still chasing one if anybody has one floating about?
Can you make an imperial version Mick?

If the dimensions match, it doesn't matter whether it started life as metric or imperial.
But either are easy to make. Just make sure you cut a real thread, not the stack of grooves on Pete's drawings.

:D well spotted! it started life as a toolbox bolt with the display set to schematic.

Next time I will use a nice swept cut along a helix!
