The 'L' shaped bar that I heated and peened over is the operating to engage the PTO, ps next job will be to make a propellor shaft for the PTO,,.

Hello Dennis,

So the PTO on the Land Rover? Not something to do with the steam locomotive? Oh sorry for the thread hijack with my incorrect ID of what turned out to be the Dillon torch.

Kind Regards
Lionel

No worries Lionel, and yes Pedro I have cast bullets for many different calibers over the years rifle/pistol, I have about a 1/4 ton of 'linotype' in ingots which I will never use unless I start firing off rounds in the back yard LOL, whoops I have hi-jacked my own thread LOL cheers Dennis

Denis, cast some projectiles for the gun buggy and then you will be prepared for when the invasion begins. ;)

The 'L' shaped bar that I heated and peened over is the operating to engage the PTO, the shaft that the knob screws on was wobbling all over the place, I would have thought that maybe, it would have been threaded onto the shaft but the parts book doesn't show it like that at all, so I got out my oxy/acetylene torch (I have 2 types) as it was nearest the shed door, laid it on it's side after lighting up, held in place with a 2.5kg lump of lead ( I have heaps of lead ingots that I use to cast bullets) I had to do it this way as my T/A wasn't home.
On the threaded rod where the knob goes I made a collar threaded 7/16"BSF to protect the thread and also to sit square on the anvil while I belted the hot end to peen it over, it is all done now, cheers Dennis
ps next job will be to make a propellor shaft for the PTO,,.

Yes I can see that now should have reconized it from mine.. Been a wile since ive seen it except through the hole under the centre seat. I will check mine while the body is off.

Well with club rego inspection behind again for another year although sometimes I feel as though it comes around every two weeks LOL, all vehicles passed without too much fuss, just the usual non compliance with lights refusing to work until you give them a bump with your hand, the problem is they sit for too long between runs on our rough goat tracks where I live :(.
Anyway yesterday I took a short trip to my mates place at Mandalong, so I could use his guillotine to cut strips that will fit in the rubbers I have for the doors etc, while I was there I also cut some strips of brass for my model loco to fit under the copper backhead/throatplate as copper can't be threaded.
Here is a length of rubber with the alloy strip inside it
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/11/250.jpg
and here is one fitted to the front of the bulkhead left side
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/11/251.jpg
and the rear of the left door
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/11/252.jpg
look at the dust that floats in the atmosphere add to that the dust from the open cut mines not far away, anyway lunch break is over better get back to it cheers Dennis :)

Well I had no joy with the Series 1 conditional registration, it isn't due until Feb 2017, but I wanted it to fall at the same time as all the others in December, it just can't be done unless I cancel the rego, surrender the plates and start from scratch again, which is a repeat of the process that I had in the first instant, if the young man who did the paper work behind the counter @ the local RTA (as it was back in Feb 2016) had have listened to me instead of yakking to all n sundry back then, now Service NSW and no-one knows how to!!!!, before computers it would have been done in minutes no fuss,,.
Anyway today I sat in it and remembered that I had to look into why the the fuel gauge wouldn't/doesn't work as it should, it was that hot sitting in it even though it was under cover, the juice was running out of me, anyway I found the problem and I'm blaming the auto-electrician, he had the wires on the gauge in the wrong places, but I can't sack him as it's me LOL all good now, works as it should, I need to get it out n take it for a run, but I have to move 5 vehicles first, anyway cheers and all the best for the coming year, Dennis :)

I fitted a set of rear seats to the Series 1 last Friday, I had good intentions of taking a few images but a sudden Vertigo attack left me helpless for 48 hours, no wonder I won't go on any boat trips LOL, anyway next time it's out I will snap a couple, no big deal fitting seats anyway, just mark out equally and drill the four holes job done, well I did have to repaint them in DBG, cheers Dennis:)

Hi Dennis , Do you have any use for one of these . I think it is some sort of black out light & it seams to have 2 LED bulbes in it . Somebody said it may fit under the back iof a L/R & shine forward onto the diff center. Any way if you want it I will send it to you. It has the number 4247 on a sticker

I just had a look at The Registry of Ex Military Land Rovers & they appear to be Blackout Marker Lights NSS 6220 66 128 4247 p/n AYG 9726 , to suit a Parentie. According to the site they dont think anybody would have any but I have this new one. It is Lego brick size with 2x yellow LED lights & 2 x securoing screws on the back & lead c/ w plug. If you dont need it & know somebody who doese they would be welcome to it .

I see on the SBS National News tonight that there are fires close to the township up your way Dennis. I hope they are not causing you any threats and your family and fleet are safe!
It doesn't seem that long back and the issue up there was flooding.

Cheers, Mick.

All OK here mate, I was driving my 110 home from work on Monday @ approx 1410hrs in that location, I saw some light coloured smoke as I was approaching Heddon Greta (nr the Hunter Expressway), by the time I had traveled approx 2k's the smoke was black and rising fast in the high wind that was prevailing at the time, from my location on the main road the fire appeared to be off Mitchell ave Kurri, and I passed within 300 yards of the spot, passed quite a few appliances heading to the location, either somebody lit 2 fires or embers spread quickly as another fire started back down alongside the freeway, where there was no fire as I crossed it, it was just good luck that no lives or property were destroyed, I would imagine that quite a bit of wildlife might have perished though, cheers Dennis

Well, sometimes the well made plans of men n mice go astray, it seems the RHS rear axle oil seal is faulty. It had been replaced by the former owner along with the collar that fits on the axle, I have never had the pleasure (or rather the experience) of replacing one of these gems, the Series 1 that I had back in the early 70's had fully floating rear end, very familiar with that setup, my biggest problem here is lack of space, to disable a vehicle on the driveway means I can't move anything in or out if the need arises, ? has anyone here had any recent experience in replacing the oil seal what time frame are we looking at, any help pointers greatly appreciated cheers Dennis[bigwhistle]

Dinty

I think I found the oil leak/weep the bolts that hold the axle to the banjo housing were not tight enough in my opinion, I nipped them all up, degreased the lower 2 bolts and back plate assembly. The drum was dry when removed I expected it to be dripping in oil, where the vehicle is parked up the ground has a slight lean to the right, this would allow oil to pool there and with the bolts not being tight enough it's allowed a weep past the gasket, well that's what I'm hoping LOL cheers Dennis[bigwhistle]

Auh now you've got me started! Wondered when this would happen , I've always put my photos on the forums site. This way they stay on the site as a library, but I don't know how much storage the site has available if everybody did this. Guess we'll find out soon.
Haven't been on here much lately as the site has been updated one too many times for my old desk top computer,it can't log onto this site any more, so I can only use the iPad ,hence lack of photos on klonks thread as well.
We're hooked on technology and now they're reeling us in.
The new trucks at work squeal back to the factory in the country of manufacture if the service isn't done on time or an unauthorised laptop is plugged into the truck. We get a letter advising that our warranty is null and void. We have one!
We had a truck breakdown half way to Perth with dead batteries. The local Albany dealer went up and fitted new ones but couldn't start the truck, he had to reprogram the ECU, but he wasn't authorised to do it, so the dealer from Perth had to come down and Sweden reprogrammed the ECU. We got the batteries under warranty and billed for everything else as all warranty is only done in the dealers workshop in Perth.
I hate electronics :firedevil:

Sorry Dinty for the highjack, Ive burnt the soapbox now.

Cheers Steve

Bloody shame Dennis, as there were some great pics from you on here.

I've never gone past my freebie allowance on Photo...... and now use a different server. Pity it is such a pain to upload pics to here direct, or maybe it's just my computer, as it always seems to take ages.

Well, this is disgraceful, this afternoon I looked at the Series 1 all covered up etc to keep rain/sun/melaleuca leaves (neighbours tree) it has not had 1 run day since rego in February, that is disgraceful ? where has the time gone, I must make an effort to rectify that situation soon I hope, but I have a 1988 110FFR that needs some remedial work on it so I will have to try and squeeze in a run or two, the dilemma of owning more than one of Solihull's finest, cheers dennis[bigwhistle]
