Hi all, having trouble getting my RAVE cd to work on my Mac laptop. Can somebody please tell me the preload and any tricks to replace the rear wheel bearings on my '96 130. I've got new axles ,flanges ,seals etc and plan on doing the wheel bearings while I'm at it.

yeppoon eh.........i grew up in gracemere

i assume you have a hub nut spanner? it makes the job far easier.....

other might be able to explain it better than me.......i don't believe there is a set preload, while spinning the hub i run the nut run up until it takes out all the movement in the bearings.....no need to continue tightening. i repeat this a few times i.e. the weight of your arm on a long screwdriver that is through the hub nut spanner

I've got one of the common tube spanners for doing the hub nuts.
I usually use a screwdriver through the tube spanner to do it up quite tight while turning the hub by hand, then back off until its free, remove the screwdriver and tighten the tube spanner firmly with my hands (firm - not gorilla tight ;) ).

Not sure if that's anything like a recommended method but its worked well for me.

I've got the tube spanner and put a screw driver through it as well.

Luckily (and don't tell me boss) I have a copy of the D1 workshop manual saved at work for those curious moments. :p



1.Fit hub adjusting nut. Tighten to 61 Nm.
2.Back off adjusting nut 90°. Tighten to 4 Nm.
This will give the required hub end float of 0,010mm

One day I was bored and figured out that 4Nm was about the same as 2kgs on the end of my biggest screwdriver through the hub nut spanner. :) So hand tight on the tube spanner sounds about right for 4Nm.
