Hi everyone,

I have a MY13 Disco 4 HSE and want to be able to equip it more for some four-wheel driving.

I opted for the new 20" black pack, which looks great for the road, but I don't want to venture into the muddy ruts of off-roading with them..

So, has anyone purchased the 18" compomotive rims for their Disco 4 and how did you guy about ordering a pair? Where is the best and cheapest place to order?

Also, before i order, is there anything I need to know about the wheels?

Hi James, as far as I know the only way to get them is through Gordon(gghaggis on here) at Green Oval Experience.

Yup the wheels are awesome. Order some extra centre caps from ebay.

We purchased 6 of these wheels from Gordon last year and he was very good to deal with. Delivery was a bit slow as I think he waited until he got a container full. But we had plenty of time and it was not a problem.
It was a very positive experience to deal with such a knowledgeable retailer on not this matter but all sorts of issues.
We put our own original centres in when we fitted the new rims and by the time we got to Birdsville they had been spat out. A bit of plumbing sealant would hold them in a bit better but we bought another 4 in Perth and just ran the 18's without the centres.
Gordon also recommended various tyres for these rims which included the BFG All Terrains. As my own experience with the BFG All Terrains has always been good, we went with them.
I would have to say that they are really just a bit too big in diameter once fitted as they rub on the plastic front guards at the access setting and on anything like a full lock.
It totally gave me the irrits that the only way I could get the spare in to the under body cavity was to deflate it. Even so it still takes a rubber mallett and some decent whacks to get it in, even after you remove the stone shield at the front of the cavity. Def a two man job to get the wheel up as its not possible to keep a load on the cable and lower at the same time but that is the case with the standard wheels as well.
We were very pleased to have made the move to the 18's and the big sidewall tyres. No tyre troubles in over 18000 k's.

GOE 18" rims transform an outstanding offroad vehicle into an absolute weapon.
I run two sets of tyres and rims....factory for around town and GOE rims and more aggressive tyres for play.
If you were to check my GOE rims, you will see they have been hammered.....don't want to do that to the expensive factory rims.
One of the best investments you can make....it just gives you so much more confidence.

There are quite a few 18" rims for sale on Eblag (mostly off RRS) not too expensive either.

Only problem is the factory 18" rims will only fit D3s and D4s with the 2.7 TDV6.

I have a 2006 D3 SE petrol 4.0 V6 with (I think) factory 18" rims - they seem to fit fine?

Sorry, should have added that they also fit the D3 petrol V6.

You can also order them from the UK and have them delivered directly to your door. I ordered a set from Rory at Performance Alloys in the UK (Compomotive PD1880 Wheels | Compomotive PD1880 Alloys | Performance Alloys.com ® The Alloy Wheel Experts (http://www.performancealloys.com/wheel-details.aspx?ID=3174)). He was extremely helpful and you can see the price for yourself... delivery was 425 pound for air freight and courier delivery directly to my door in Darwin.
Make sure you specify that you need the rims with the ET44 offset. VERY important.

That's considerably more than ordering it from me - and rather cheeky that they use a picture of my car to advertise the product
I shall have words ....

Looks like the price has gone up a fair bit since I got mine :o So much for competition.
The 425 pounds was actually for the delivery of 6 rims too - sorry for the oversight.
The pictures he's using looked to be pinched from the Compomotive web site by the looks of it.

He's also using a conversion rate of 69pence to the dollar :eek2:

He also offers directly paying in GBP and PayPal where you can use your credit card conversion rate (which is normally way better), but it's a moot point if the prices have gone up (and the exchange rates have gotten worse too).
Gordon, it's really handy having them directly delivered to your door via air courier (it took 4 days to freight them from the UK to my door!) and their postage charges are way less that here it seems. Have you considered organising a shipping agent in the UK and directly shipping them to customers instead of sea shipping them to Perth then road freighting them elsewhere in Oz? It'd save a heap of time and may work out better from an end user cost perspective..? Customs duty would have to be paid directly by the customer then though I guess.

We have been restructuring prices on all our products, if you've checked the website lately. The new cost of the rims includes delivery to your nearest depot, then it's up to you to collect or use a local courier. That way we don't get stuck with trying to organise exact delivery times etc, which never works, and the customer gets a slightly cheaper deal.
As far as air freight is concerned, I offer it for a cost (as they do), and don't see any great advantage over waiting 5 days and then having to pay duty, GST and airport charges, versus 10 days and having to pay nothing (and still getting a cheaper price)? Surely the cost savings are worth 5 days? Note that in all cases, those times are approximate, dependent on how quickly Customs clear them.
The problem with overseas sites advertising at an inflated conversion rate is that if you don't work out the conversion yourself, but rely on their advertised price (when you select "show price in Australian dollars"), it works out a lot more expensive than what they've advertised.
Cheers,
Gordon
