View Full Version : Strange connection on Thor intake Plenum

Hi,

On the drivers side of my intake plenum are a couple of unconnected outlets, one of which has been blocked with a screw.

One is the rubber tube with a screw in the end, and the other looks original and seems a bit like an airline connector !

I was wondering what is missing here?

Pic attached

Thanks
Steve

The one with the screw in it is blanked off on every other Thor motor as well. I assume it may be a vacuum line for emission regs in one of the countries overseas.

The other plastic/red/black one I have no idea what it does, again, it's on every Thor motor as well.

in the usa, they have to endure a 'secondary air' system, this is likely the port that is blocked with a screw, see pic below;
Rover V8 Secondary Air Injection (http://www.motorcarsltd.com/rover-v8-secondary-air-injection.html)

the other air fitting one i am not sure of, as it is quite a large fitting.

I think it is for the evaporative emissions can which should be on the RH side Guard?

Has it been taken off because of the gas injection?

It's not on my Bosch 4.6 Phillip, nor was it on my previous Bosch 4.6, both ports were unused. Neither ran/run LPG. I have not seen a Thor motor with these ports used!

D2 engines have a fitting in there.

Don't all P38s run accumulator based ABS, i.e. no brake booster? One less hose to the plenum.

Hi

Bumping an old thread

Does anyone know how that bigger connector is held in?

I tried turning it gently and it turned but did not appear to screw out.

If it has a thread I am thinking it's a perfect spot for the temperature sender for my electric fan setup

Thanks
Steve

Push the hose in gently
then push the red collar in and hold in while pulling on the hose.
then the hose should come out.
Works like a air fitting.

On re reading you were probably trying to take the whole thing out, pass

Hi Steve

what type of temp sensor are you fitting for the fan, Im in the process of fitting a watchdog temp sensor that also has a relay that will switch on the fans earlier. Just need to find the right spot for the sensor.

Hi

I am using the Dakota Digital controller, which can take the readings from the factory sensor has dual fan control, setting of fan off and fan on temperatures plus run on after switch off.

I will eventually use a dedicated sensor, a bit of a failsafe, most likely in the spot where that unused connector is.

The watchdog I believe can be attached to any bolt around the head I would be looking at whichever looks easiest :D
