Cruise control issue

Hi,

I'm new to land rovers and this site.
So I bought my car (95 Discovery v8 manual) just over a week ago and the cruise control hasn't worked at all since I've had it. I checked all the vacuum hoses and they seem to be fine so I hooked a vacuum hose directly from the vacuum motor to the part that moves the throttle and connected it directly to the battery and it doesn't seem to have the sucking power to do anything more than slightly shrink the rubber thing. Is it possible the vacuum motor needs replacing? I don't know much about it all but hopefully it's something simple. Also the light does come on when I press the cruise control button.

Hi Dtripp,

I'll be stunned if its not the vacuum motor itself. Unsure why but super common for them to fail. I have had two in three years and my third one has been trouble free for 6 months or so..touch wood! Some wreckers will let you test one before paying and driving away with it. Make sure you do as the second one I brought was already buggered

I'm assuming that when you hook the motor up to the battery and a vacuum hose directly to the thing at the throttle it should open the throttle all the way then? Mine doesn't move it at all. And there's no air leaks anywhere either.

i have a cruise control issue too. found a t-piece leading back to the vacuum servo at the throttle plate floating in the breeze and not much else. does anyone have the vacuum diagrams?

Mine was like that too to start with. From the t-piece one should go to the thing at the throttle, one to the vacuum pump underneath the jack, and one through the firewall on the drivers side. From there I'm not completely sure where it goes though.

Ours stopped working when leaving melb for qld road trip. Had a look on the way but drove to Qld without cruise control. Fixed once we arrived in Qld,found a plastic t-piece had obstruction in it,just enough to render cruise useless. Also had typical split vacum lines in past.

....through the firewall and onto the brake switch/vacuum switch. It's a manual? Then to the clutch switch as well.

The switch port faces towards the rear of the vehicle.

Make sure you get vacuum line when you replace the hose.
And if you need to replace the vacuum pump, one from a EA-EF Falcon will do the job for you. Same Hella bit with a small change to the wiring plug.

By all means remove the vacuum switches on the brake / clutch to test them.... because it's easier that way... then put them back and test them again.
- which is where I found one of my problems.

Would'nt have happened if I'd exactly followed the RAVE proceedure...:(

Ok so after following all the instructions from another post which I assume are similar if not the same as the rave diagnostics the only issue I found was that when I spun the rear wheel and checked the voltage at the cruise ecu it was about 10volts when it is meant to be Below 5volts. Does anyone know if this means the ecu is the issue or not? Every other test was fine..

Hi All

Just had my D1 v8 to the Toowoomba Land Rover dealership to fix my central locking. They did a splendid job and it now works superbly.

While there, I asked them to check over the cruise control to see if it was an easy fix. Sad to report it is not good, with six pencils stick up the vacuum hoses and random pieces of string stuck in various orifii (?)

I conceded defeat on the cruise control but may revisit it again when I can work out why the pencils were there.....:(

So I know this is from a while ago but I still haven't figured out the problem. I've followed a guide for diagnostics and it was either the ecu or the speed sensor. I've replaced the ecu with one that was apparently tested and working but it didn't fix it. Anyone know where the speed sensor is?
