New Land Rover roo bars

I've just had a new Land Rover roo bar fitted to my Defender. Has anybody else and what did you do about recovery points? Thanks Ellen

Interestingly, ARB's web site states that it "Integrates durable tow points in the Hi-Lift jack recesses;" - yours doesn't seem to have those either.

My ARB bars have reinforced recovery points under the bar in line with the chassis rails and the vertical "post sections" of the bar.

My guess is that they have left them off either as an economy thing or someone has damaged the rings through improper use and now ARB are worried about liability.

(Refer to their website and show my pics to ARB - and ask for a discount.....)

I notice that your "post" sections now extend down past the jacking points for the LR wind-up bumper jack.



I would install good quality recovery rings from a truck or bearing shop in (or close to) these locations.

If done correctly it would be better than what used to be the ARB original fitment in the pics anyway.



I've only ever used the D1's rings to use as a point for connecting the winch cable after going round the snatch-block. I've never had to use the county ones.

Yes, I've just had my ARB bar removed which was the same as yours (not quite as many bugs but :D)

This is the new bar which LR are now making, they are saying that no bar has recovery points :confused:

I have the ARB bar (2010 design) with what looks like very strong recovery points… after reading a few posts on here I err-ed on the side of caution and am considering these to be ‘heavy duty tow’ points only and fitted genuine LR jate rings to the chassis rails for recovery. Not that I’ve needed em yet.

The OEM winch bar (not a bullbar) certainly has recover points.

That is the same design they have always had for the gen L/Rover bar. Mine that was fitted in '05 under insurance after an altercation with a bull destroyed the previous is excatly the same design, It has no recover points either but I have ring on the chassis. So far as I know they are built for L/Rover by ARB

When I modified my bar I welded plates on the eves on the bottom which extend back to the cross bolt (where Jate rings are usually attached).

It would be an easy mod to do even on the vehicle, but would require the paint to be touched up.

Cause I'm a girl and wanted it to look pretty as the ARB one was yukky :p I love giving money to Land Rover, it's got the LR logo on - I don't know, I was in the showroom and they had them on special of course it was only the black ones on special and I wanted the silver :(

I also thought mechanically my little truck was mickey mouse so I could splurge - then the next day my radiator died :(

Could be just that I'm stupid sometimes and I shouldn't go near anything Land Rover as I can't be trusted :D

They werent built by ARB, they were made in Sydney...

That may have changed now, but in the past a Sydney based company was making them.

AHA! Thanks for that :) I was told that by the smash repairer that did the work. I have often wondered about tit as it really does not follow ARB design which you would think.
