The one closest to the engine block (ie 9 o'clock position looking forward).

Hi Jode, just had a look.
Now, if you count your cylinders from front of car to rear of car as 1 - 4 and if you look (from rear of pump looking towards front of car) at the injector pipes as being positioned as the hours on a clock, mine are configured as follows
9 o'clock goes to cylinder 1
12 o'clock goes to cylinder 2
3 o'clock goes to cylinder 4
6 o'clock goes to cylinder 3

Thanks, guys, the pipes are as they should be. The problem must be the timing (I thought it was spot on...).

Check that you power connector to the pump shut-off solenoid has 12v power.

Hi there Jode,
I rebuilt my 300Tdi a month or two ago and had the same problem of not being able to start it, after consulting with the trusty Land Rover Encyclopaedia of Knowledge (aka Aulro) and having yet another look at the timing I found that I had actually gotten the injector pump timing very slightly out despite having gone over it twice already, I did get it started after a LOT of trying but it ran quite rough and blew white smoke, when I adjusted the pump timing the difference was immediately noticeable, it was easy to start and back to running smooth like a rebuilt engine should, even if its a frosty morning without glowing it first it fires on the second or third turn over of the engine.
So going from my experience I would say check the timing:) Good luck and have fun!
Cheers, Remo

On the subject of bleeding a rotary pump, select the highest I hector outlet on the pump (No 2 on a Tdi?) and bleed it at this injector.
