On the UK sites there is talk about the linking cam chain on the 2.7 TDV6 failing, sometimes at relatively low miles.
Has this shown up to be an issue in Australia and anyone actually had one fail?
Just curious.

I guess by the lack of responses that it means no one has had this happen to them or even heard of it :) - that is great as it means it is one less thing to worry about :).

Didn't see this before Garry.
I did read of one on Disco3, which is probably where your concern has originated, but other than that, nothing.

Yes Dave I did see it there but also mentioned in passing on another forum. But as there were no takers here it looks like not such an issue. It does beg the question that if they use chains to drive the second camshaft on each bank and it is sealed for life why no make the main drive, chains rather than belts.

2.7 is a belt not a chain....

Two of the camshafts are driven by the main belt. The other two are driven by a chain from the camshafts that are belt driven.
So the TDV6 is both belt and chain driven ;)

Wish they had used chains only and no belts....

As said by others, why would they use belts, when many other manufacturers have gone the other way.
I believe the 3l has chains?

I believe the 3l has chains?I thought I read this in the release blurbs but someone (I think I know who) stated that the 3.0 also has a camshaft belt.

Lots of euro cars use hybrid belt/chain. All of my Audis have used it.
Chains need to be replaced at some point too you know ;)

I'm told there are 2 chains on the cams, and they do need to be changed, but the kilometres when to change differ depend on who who ask.
I've heard 100,000 (K's or Miles, the quote wasn't specific.
Asked a service person who usually knows his stuff around 2.7 and 3L, and he thought it was 160,000k (which might match with the 100,000 (miles perhaps) that I had been told.
other quotes.
Mine has done 130K at present and I'm looking to replace front and rear timing belts/tensioners etc before 150K, and reckon I'll get the chains (and probably cam seals) done at same time.
Does anybody know what the recommended K's is for chain replacement?

You (or who is advising you) are getting the Cam belt and Cam chains mixed up - there is no service interval for the chains - basically use until get rattly or fail.
Cam belts are 7 years or 168,000km whatever is the earliest.

PS you jinxed me - I now have a fuel filter leak [bigsad]

I think I have a lazy chain tensioner on the RH bank of my 2.7 TDV6 its done 234K km. It rattles for a few seconds after start, and tends to rattle for a while if the car has been standing for a week or so.
Has anybody changed one? Info on any tips tricks time taken greatly appreciated.

RH will be a pita as the chain and tensioner are at the rear of the head, cam needs to removed to get the tensioner out so new seals required as well which means pulleys off as well.
Definitely a DIY proposition if you have the time.
