Hey everyone i just got a quick question. A bloke i meet told me that td5 extreme defenders already have a bigger inter-cooler on the front and that's why the nose sticks out a little further.

Is this correct or was he telling me porkies.

You'll probably find it has the extension for air conditioning, different intercooler..... don't think so.

Just replaced my inter cooler on my 2002 td5 defa and no they haven't made a bigger inter cooler as stock standard so your mate may have been misinformed

Hans is urs an extreme cause its close to the year of mine. i just wanna know cause towing my camper my car gets really hot and loses performance so i thought a bigger intercooler would help.

This isn't correct they have the standard intercoolers
Put an Allisport Intercooler in to overcome your issues

If the coolant temp is high put an Allisport alloy radiator in as well

Yes it is a extreme 2002 td5
Haven't had a issue with over heating
As in previous reply more likely radiator problem if overheating
Replaced inter cooler for better performance
Only finished yesterday so we will see

Hi Flaps,
It will be the standard one, mine is a 2001 TD5 Extreme came with the standard I/C. If you want one at a reasonable cost try TRS in Adelaide that's where I got mine from. Other than that go with the Allisport one as recommended. If you replace the intercooler consider changing the hoses as well, well worth while whilst you have things in bits. I went silicon, seem to work fine.

I changed the intercooler in my 1999 td5 defender for one out of a D2a
which is about 30% thicker.

All eu3 cars have a thicker intercooler then the early eu2 cars

If you car has the ext nose cone then you can run the NON ac intercooler from alisport which is 20mm thicker then AC cooler, as its designed to fit in the std nose with ac as per uk spec.

Hey Flaps,
The difference between the early and the late defer intercooler is the size of the core pipes, when I got my replacement one I thought I had been sent an early one by mistake until I checked the pipe sizes. The physical dimensions of the I/c don't change. Yes you can get aftermarket ones that are bigger and I suspect more efficient again, however the LR ones are physically the same dimensions.
