I know this may sound stupid. I am having trouble with the auto shifting in a Freelander and suspect I should change the transmission oil and filter as the shift from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 is jerking. Lifted the bonnet and can't find the transmission dipstick or filler. Must be able to be changed by someone other than the workshop. How do I do it? Is this the likely problem. need help. Thanks :(

For poeple to help you need to tell us what Freelander you are talking about.

A FL1 TD4 Auto, a FL1 V6 Auto, a FL2 TD4 Auto, or a FL2 V6 Auto - may have an impact on what the experts have to say.

Cheers

I don't know if the Freelander was a "sealed for life" transmission.

Yes but you can still change the fluid.

Hi Gary,
It's a FL1 V6auto. Took it to an auto transmission bloke and he thinks it is a shift solenoid or a spool valve. Can you suggest a good workshop manual for these things.
Thanks

Buy the RAVE CD from the AULRO Shop and get a Haynes Manual from anywhere that sells car manuals.

The RAVE CD is good but assumes that you are a Landrover Mechanic as it is the genuine manual. The Haynes manual assumes a lot less knowledge but misses a few things - I found that a combination of the two is perfect.
