View Full Version : My new house

The fiancee and I finally found a place that we could afford (just, $156,000) and signed the contract. Both events happening on the same day funnily enough.
It's not a bad place, nice area, good price and a garage. Only downfall, it is a car garage, Grover is too tall to fit inside style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif
Asides from that, I finally have my own home style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

I'll make the carport accomodate grover, it might mean making the carport taller, but fit it will
As for a pool, there was a pool there in 1929, but that was called the great flood of 1929, hopefully the tamar river won't be visiting for a repeat performance 8O
I'll add some more pics after we have moved in, those two don't do it justice (Also it will give me time to clean up a couple of rough edges  )

Yep, plenty of room for tents, and you can even pick your own fruit (the place has a 90 year old orange tree, it's huge 8O ). BTW, the house is 1914, so 90 this year style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

CONGRATULATIONS !!
I remember how I felt when I bought my first (and only) house - all of 4 years ago.
I've just thrown some money at TITAN to build me a shed to keep stuff in. Trouble is we have a Defender, a falcon, and a space (3 car shed).
All I gotta do now is find a nice SWB style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif and some money to buy it with.... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif
As regards helping you move.... I live in Brisbane but EVEN if I lived NEXT DOOR to you I still wouldn't be even vaguely interested in helping you move style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif . I have a Ute, therefore been there and done that all too often :? .
Seriously, Congrats again mate. Looks like a nice house and if I am ever down that way I'll park my ute right on top of the garden; which will get YOU out of any **** you might happen to be in with Mrs Phoenix at the time !   (Transferrence of blame...)
Cheers Mate.

Well Done Phoenix!!!!
You cant go wrong owning your own place compared to renting.
You aint going to have time for your landy any more, you will be busy fixing things and renovating on the house, they are just like a landy.I know,we bought our house 9 months ago and the list is never ending PLUS the house gobbles money faster than a broken down landy!!!!
Best of luck
Andrew
VladTepes
11th March 2004, 04:22 PM
Yeah they sure are money gobblers - but so is rent....
Oh for the days of caves.... (as long as they are big enough to fit the Landie in).
I hear there are a few vacant ones over in Afghanland now that Osama has moved out. Going cheap but apparently "slightly trashed".

Started moving in yet Phoenix? Have you slept there yet......?
Tell us what its like to be a home owner???
Phoenix
15th March 2004, 08:50 AM
Haven't slept there yet, but I have been there late at night (must get that damn sensor light outside working :x ).
Kinda scary being a home owner, but it is starting to feel like our home, rather than the previous owners.
So as a form of an update, here is how the weekend went.
on friday at 11:45 I attended settlement, handed the papers over (now I'm in big debt style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif ), and got the keys and alarm code.
Went in after work, and spent 2 minutes working out how the alarm works, 1 minute of that with the alarm going 8O . I don't know if anyone else noticed, but empty houses look terrible. We decided to spruce the place up while it is empty, and before we move in. So we are repainting ALL of the rooms (it will look great when it is finished though).
So on saturday we bought all the paint we needed (well almost), borrowed all the tools we needed and got to it. At the end of the day there had been much cleaning, sanding and fixing.
On sunday we hired a wallpaper remofer and removed a freize from the kitchen, and the wallpaper from one whole room (one more to go next weekend). More sanding, scraping and tidying, and bu late sunday, it really does look like a house under renovation. And that is what it looks like this morning.
So it looks like moving in will be at least another week 1/2 away, depending on how many helpers we have on the weekend
On another positive note, even SWMBO decided that the landy is a handy thing for lugging all of that gear around style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
VladTepes
15th March 2004, 10:17 AM
Good move.
I wish I had thought to do that when I got this place as onec the furniture is in it all becmes a little bit too hard - so the walls are the same yuk beige they were 4 years ago.
When (if) the shed ever gets finished, I can move some stuff out there and attack the painting.
(I HATE painting :!: )
So you did well - and a LANDY victory with the SWMBO to boot ! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

King oath it did :!:
The first erector stuffed around for weeks longer than he should have and the weather couldn't be blamed for it all. He is on the southside of Brissie and I don't think that he could be bothered coming up here, really. (I am on far northside).
Why (the shed company) put him on the job in the first place, I will never know.
Anyway I finally convinced them to put another crew on the job (a bloke that lives north side) and he was excellent - got the job done in 2 days notwithstanding quite windy weather. It looks like he did a good job too (only time will tell).
I also had to continually chase the company - they never rang me to let me know what was going on... (I HATE that !)
So, you ask, what company was it ?
Well - not to give too much away, but it was TIT.....
Wait, no. That's too obvious. It was ...AN.
There. I'll bet you'll never figure that out.

Well here's a timeline:
15/12/03 - ordered shed and paid deposit. (Advised completion mid Feb)
15/01/04 - Council building approval
28/01/04 - Earthworks and concreting of piers and slab completed.
10/02/04 - Shed deliverd (in pieces). Major (70%) progress payment made. Advised construction would occur within 3 weeks.
now you'll note only about $1,000 was remaining to be paid and service deteriorated rapidly....until, finally, and very belatedly....
22/03/04 - Construction commenced.
23/03/04 - Construction completed.
Draw your own conclusions......
