Quick question Puma 130

Hey guys

is it a case that the Puma 130 still doesn't have ABS and traction control?

My 2011 2.4 doesn't and it wasn't an option. Pretty sure this has not changed.

I have always thought lockers would be more useful than traction control anyway and have not missed the abs.

I'm just wondering what would be best for pulling a horse float the 110 because it has ABS or the 130 because its bigger and I would presume even more stable than the 110.

No it doesn't. Neither does the 110 tray back or dual cab.

ABS/TC/any other acronym is just for steerers... Never thought of you as falling into that catagory.

Owning both a 110 and a 130,I concur that the 130 will be the better vehicle for your proposed use.The longer wheel base makes the vehicle much more stable,albeit that the 130 is, and feels a much larger vehicle and requires a different driving style.

Go The 130 lou. Best for your useage I suspect.

except my concern is the ABS mostly as I have never driven a car without ABS actually..actually a lie I did once a 2 wheel drive hilux which I did have to hoof the brakes on once due to sudden stop up ahead on motorway, the brakes locked up on me and got some sideways twitch I lifted off the brake and the car sort of kicked back straight and I reapplied the brakes...
I have no idea whether this was the right or wrong way to deal with the situation it was just the way I reacted.


.....so my biggest concern was could I drive a car without ABS I'm sure I could but would I react the right way? in the event of an emergency stop and again brakes locking up

it worries me more if I would have to do it with a float on the back

I'm not a flat out driver and im very careful with a float on the work car always leaving big gaps and much to peoples dismay I don't tend to travel much over 80 with animals on board.

I'm just trying to consider my driving experience in all this also.
obviously a big factor is stability when towing which is why I have been considering, I'm just not sure.:)

Land Rovers rated to 3500kg (some 110 and all 130 variants) don't do ABS and traction control. Something to do with maximum mass for which the braking mechanism can be certified.

Personally, I prefer driving an ABS and TC free Puma . Less to go wrong in the bush.

It wont take long to get used to driving without ABS.

Yeah, you can get caught out, but, if your a reasonable driver and don't "tail gate" then chances are you'll never have to worry about it.
I've had a couple of close calls, both in the city and the country, because of course, not all emergencies start with tail gating :eek:, and if your paying attention, which you should be, considering you'll be towing horses ;), you shouldn't find it too hard to keep total control of your car.
The hardest thing to do is steer whilst hard under brakes, doesn't matter whether your on tar or gravel.
