OK, who manafactures the holden engine conversion kits?

I am sick of the engine being mounted at the wrong angle, and i'm going to get it sorted out.

I suspect that it is the fault of the engine mounts that are too tall, so the easiest way to fix it would obviously to replace those with the correct item, but I don't know where to look for them :?

Anyone?

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif so many questions!!!!!

simple solution, just put a jack under the motor and when it's level just weld some reo rod in place ,never have to worry about broken mounts again!!!!!!!
hahahahahahahahahahah

just kidding guys!!!

although i have done it once on a demo derby vehicle , talk about reverberations!!!! 8O style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Ok, more details then.

It appears that the front mounts are too high up. Of course it may be that the rear ones are too low, but that is unlikely.

The result is that the engine has a nose up tilt, and the driveshaft is VERY close to the chassis where it goes through that hole. In fact, when braking downhill when empty it rubs on the bottom, well it used to, the plate that it rubbed on is mostly gone now, although I have been driving more gently.

The mounts themselves look like cast pieces (not welded), not sure about what material, maybe steel or aluminium. Then the usual rubbers between the mount and the engine etc. I considered replacing the rubbers with thinner ones, but I was worried about cracking the mounts.

but what shape and height mount rubbers do you already have where?

Umm, they are round ones between the mount and the engine, about err not sure about the dimensions, i'll grab a measuring tape in my lunch break and check it out. I'll get back to you then, I might even get some pics over the weekend.

from memory there are three good adaptor manufacturers in Oz, again I think all three were in Queensland, they are Dellows, Hadfields and Marks adaptors. I dont have any phone numbers any more but they would be who I would try first.

hope that is a help.

Ok, the engine mounts themselves are of a 'T' shape in section. One is bare metal (indicating that it is an aloy due to the lack or rust, and the other was once painted blue, but is a bit chipped now. THe engine itself is tilted up at the front by about 4 degrees max. I don't know about the rear mounts as I was in a suit, and the ground under Grover is red, dusty gravel.

The rubber bases between the mounts and the chassis are 4 cm (1 1/2 inches) thick.

I guess that I have a couple of options.

Replace the rubbers with thinner ones.
Replace the mounts with different ones.
Get the chassis modified so that the attachment is lowwer ( I don't know if this has already been don, but i'm inclined to not play with the chassis if I can avoid it )

Oh, I almost forgot.

Cast into the engine end of the mounts is "CRS EM5"

Don;t know if it has any significance, but it is upsidown as if the mount was up the wrong way.

I have seen a 186 conversion in the flesh, and that was much lower and a bit further back.

zenith engineering .. also good

the good conversions use the landrover flywheel and radiator

the holden flywheel was much lighter and the unit would not hold revs as well and was less controllable at low revs..

the conversion were done two different ways to suit the the different layouts.

4cyl petrol and diesel

and 6 cyl petrol

the 6cyl petrol was the easiest cause it already had the extended firewall section.

the 4cyl conversion usually involved cutouts in the front crossmember.

been there done that, was an easier job than putting a holden motor in a hiace tho, they really sucked rocks...

are the gearbox mount rubbers square?

what clearance do you have between the top of the bellhousing and the firewall?

maybe easier to lift the gearbox mounts using some thick 5/8" washers to packup under the mount.

way easier if you can go up....

going down sucks.... so to speak style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

No, the gearbox rubber mounts are rubber, and about 3cm thick. Maybe a thicker pad there as I have enough clearance at the firewall, it is the driveshaft where there is only 3mm clearance, and lifting the gearbox looks like it will aleviate this. is 1cm more enough? or would that be too much?

10mm would be fine

put some wide washers under the mounts and try it...

i would have thought the gearbox mounts would have been the square diesel type mount, and i cannot remember the height off the top of my head ...

Don't know about the square ones, but they look like the one that the manual shows, so they are probably original. I'll give the washers a go, it should be a nice easy jop.

Mind you, now that i've said that, it will probably take 3 hours

I'll post after I get the job done, tell you if it worked.

Next jobs:

Get exhaust rerouted
Wrap exhaust with heat shielding
Install overdrive
Get bull bar fixed
Buy new tyres (probably steeltreks)

Maybe I need another mortgage to afford all of this style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
