G,day all
My discovery has always had a whine from the t/case trans area when accelerating, I've been told this is normal. Do any other members have the same problem. Is there any way of fixing it apart from turning up the radio?

I have had two Disco's and they both had the same whine. Neither created a problem and I got the same answer as you from the dealer. I just got used to it, and figure that it wouldn't be a LR if it didn't make a few noises style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

I wonder if its the auto trans rather then the transfer case. The transfer case was rebuilt 2 yrs ago, but the auto trans down shift is occasional harsh.Could be getting tried?

I suppose the next question must be,,
How long since the auto's been serviced??

About 12 mths ago, gear changes smooth going up but as I said occasional harsh downshifting between 4-3.(not kick down just normal slowing down for lights, etc)

was it harsh before the service?
was it harsh (directly) after the service or
has it just gradually got worse?

Service did not make any difference, has not got worse since I've had it(3yrs). Maybe noiser but only slightly.

My manual whines in low range and I love that sound because it means I'm off road. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Thanks for the info, I'll put up with noise as I can still hear the stereo just did not want it to let go on me in a isolated spot.
Cheers Dave

Kev by the way, thanks to the previous owner and the amount of sealant used on tcase I had to have it rebuilt 2yrs ago new bearings, gears, etc.
I was told the whine (only slight) was coming from auto.
Cheers Dave
