Absolutely. Mine would run constantly, instead of stalling at traffic lights, get out, bang the bottom of the tank, get back in, ignore horns honking, restart it....:D

A fuel pump is a device for keeping up the fuel injection pressure in the fuel rail. Once a fuel pump flows enough fuel to run up to the fuel pressure regulator setting it can't increase performance. If a worn pump or blocked filter prevents you reaching full pressure under full load your performance will suffer. A bigger than necessary pump won't make you go faster unless you alter the rest of the system to use its abilities.

Thank Bee Utey, i kind of knew that, my question was more aimed at a faulty pump not delivering enough fuel, which you answered, thats what I suspected with mine, it had been failing for a while till it finally gave up, I guess ill see when I change it next week if there is an improvement at all.

I think my change in power was that mine kept going to limp home mode each time I'd flick from petrol / gas etc. as via bee- utey's help I altered the wiring and this was done at the same time as changing the pump...because it sure runs better now .Gary

Well I tried to change mine today and couldn't depressurise the system. Ran the engine minus fuel pump fuse until it died, but when undoing the union from the pump it was spraying fuel like crazy. I had visions of the whole car going on fire so I tightened it back up and got into my 300Tdi:D

From memory I had something similar, it turns out if I took the fuel cap off first it depressurised the tank..Gary
