hi guys I done a trip over the xmas break and found my fuel consumpson has gone to 21 ltrs per 100 klms while doing between 100/110 per hour I have been reading here and they say that increasing the advance on timing to 10deg below helps when I disconnect my vacume advance line nothing happens the timing light doesn't move when I reconnect it any ideas please

connect a hose to the diaghram and suck hard on it while your checking the timing, if it dosent move then your problem is in the distributor.

The vacuum advance port on the top of the manifold can block up with carbon. It only supplies vacuum when the throttle is above idle. Hold the engine at approx 2500 rpm and put your finger over the vac port on the manifold. If there's no suction, poke it out. If the vac capsule is buggered there's a cheap one available from the UK., I've sold quite a few of them to customers. They are quite easy to change as they slide in and connect to the pickup plate with a simple pin in a hole, no circlips or anything.

Setting the timing to 10 degrees BTDC seems to work well on the D1.

Your vac advance is broken/stuck...

A specialist is the easiest method and they have the gear to really sort the curve as well...
