Anyone had any dealings with OAMPS (ie good / bad) and their 4wd insurance?

How does it stack up compared with the other 4wd insurances offered by TCIS and the like??

Also, I will need to get an engineers certificate on the engine conversion to try and get a better price on my insurance, what should it cost??

A very interesting topic and one I'm sure a few people can share info on.

Has anyone had any particularly good service from an insurer - good claims handling and reasonable premiums ?

Are some insurers better than others when it comes to things that they will cover ?

Interested in changing insurance companies, because RACV  decided to BUMP my insurance up !!! Go figure, Rating 1, no claims at all since I've had insurance !!! And they decided to put it up by $100 a year, reason when I rang, maybe they have had a lot of claims in my area !!! Who cares !!!

Need to get new insurance, but need to pay it monthly !!

AAMI, is yearly, anyone else got a good insurance company ?

I have had a look at this (http://www.budgetdirect.com.au), a lot cheaper than RACV and AAMI, will cover any 4wd'ing, as long as it isn't out of manufactures specs :!: Simply want go with them because of there name.

Mate Im with GIO ,

I recently had an at fault claim where mine was the only vehicle damaged. It was on road and my fault entirely...... Im on Max no claim bonus, and I get 1 claim a year without affecting my premium or my NCB.

I pay by the month.

I can thoroughly recommend them ..... but no doubt someone will have a bad exp....

I was with the 4WD Association insurance scheme through TCIS. This year when the policy went from $1500 to $2500 with a 60% NCB I changed to AAMI for a policy costing $650. This is for a $36,000 policy.

And I'm well and truly over 25, er, 35, er, 45, er, 55.

I love reading this sort of stuff in insurance policies !!

not) or acts of a foreign enemy, military coup or any looting or rioting

Yep, they're the ones that wanted $2500 for my RR insurance vs $650 from AAMI. I can buy a lot of other insurance for the excess $1900 they wanted.

That's a lot of money alright, way way too much.
Sounds, from what Kev says, like their cover is great - evidently it's the pricing that's the problem. Might be a good place for people with specialist or comp four wheel drives to check with :?:

It's interesting reading about people's experience with Insurance companies - as this is an issue that all of uis need to be aware of. Especially when it comes down to when we will, or will not, be covered.

I keep reading, with interest. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

If you want a good insurance story, my brother had a Nissan Navara STR diesel which he bought in december last year, he was out doing a creek crossing a few weeks ago which he had done many times when something went wrong and the nissan ended up a little further down the creek than it should have and for some reason did not want to stop going, long story short in less than a week he had a new one
he is with suncorp, and so am I

I use GIO and haven't had any bad experiences with them yet.
As I start to modify the disco tho I may have to look at their coverage and see if need to change.

I'm with GIO; which I think is the same as Suncorp. When My Disco was broken into the guy at GIO organised a new rear window over the phone with himself, O'Briens and me on a conference call. Everything was organised in 10 mins and window fixed in 48 hours. Good service and low premiums. Only pay about $750 p.a. for $38000.00 cover, and by the month too.

The fine print is fairly generic in the ones I've read and likely to be able to be twisted in the insurance companies favour when required.

They also won't put anything like a guarantee of cover in writing, just refer you back to their T&C document.

Not sure if it is differant in any other state but insurance companies in WA generaly will pay claims for damage that has occered on a ROAD/TRACK/TRAIL what ever as long as it appears on a recognised map.

They will also cover extras, eg lights bullbar steps, ect
They just ask for a list of addons and anything over a certian $ (varies) they need to see proof of payment if a claim is made.
