We all know our landys can carry heaps of stuff, so I thought I would start a thread that may give other people ideas on how to set up the back of their cars
http://www.aulro.com/albums/album-42/landy_37.thumb.jpg
This is mine. It is a two piece bit of mdf board that hinges in the middle to form a false floor so I can put all my tools and recovery equipment out of sight. Plus a home made two piece cargo barrier with my old centre console in the back for random junk. All up it cost me just under $50 to set it all up.
Currently I am in the process of fitting two front defender buckets in place of the rear bench for more passenger comfort.

I made this unit from some old bed slats that I found and some marine carpet.
Little big of aliminum angle on the endge to make it loof spiffy and it works great.
have room on one side for the tool box and other side for anything else that will fit there.
No fridge just yet and the dog likes me as she can now see where she is going.

Lewy: any chance of a bigger pic ?
Gidget's centre console (see other thread) is a great storage solution too.
I am also interested in people's storage solutions for utes. and things that wil fit in single cabs.
Currently I have a tool box bolted to the tray but it means I can;t easily take it off to use the load space tio full capacity. I like the look of those dust/waterproff 'space cases' but security is a big issue, as the cases are expensive let alone the stuff I would have in them...

Too all you keen people style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
In other threads I told people about the custom dash and roof console I made for my Series 3 hardtop 109"
At the moment I have just designed a bash plate, centre console, dash pod and centre switch panel for my disco and when time persist I will do a rear draw system as well.
So to you all if you need some plans drawn up drop me an email of what you want and I could try to draw you a set of plans for you too follow

I was thinking of a 2 piece Defender floor console. The first bit would be Gidgets nice piece of work, if Gidgie's good enough to make up some plans when time permits.
Then I was thinking  of a second 'concole' that fits over the transmission tunnel and has (perhaps) compartment between the tunnel and handbrake to fit in a fire extinguisher, and a hinged door to the fusebox, replacing the current plastic cover. It would also have 'holes' through which the gear/transfer case levers protrude, like in a normal sedan console.
Hmmm... I have design ideas but the execution thereof is another thing altogether. I have no idea what would be the best materials to use and how to best fix the end result in place - ie self tappers throught the metal or what ? :?

Hi
Sorry not up to putting pics, too hard???????(or to stupid????).
In my 109 van,the previous owner boxed the LPG tank in (which is behind the bulkhead)with chipboard and stuck speakers in pointing to the rear.I fitted a security mesh barrier to the top of this to the rear edge which gives a parcel shelf about 450mm wide over the top of the bulkhead and also stops gear in the back visiting the front in a misshap. In the rear floor I have MDF panels that sit across the floor (and lift out)covered in a sheet of carpet. It gives a flat floor plus a space for the spare/tools etc out of view from prying eyes.(also cuts out heaps of noise)
Can email a photo to anyone able to post it.
Then again
I SHOULD LEARN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers
Andrew

You might have done your money, mate.
Land Rover didn't bother to attend the Car show here in Brisbane (a surprise, given the number of 'shopping trolley' discos out there). Apparently they are going to be at the 4x4 and camping show, instead.
So perhaps that Defender will cost you an EXTRA $5. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

I has cause to go to the 4x4 show at Rosehill racecourse last week, landrover no show again - despite NSW office is across the road, The NSW Range rover club was there - spoke with a blok and was actually thinink of joining until he said they didnt want series owners as their vehicles cant keep up on the road if they are going on a trip. He did mention ther asked Landrover for a vehicle on their stand and were knocked back. - Jeep and Toyota on the other hand had a very big stall .
Also saw a club called the Discovery club. its of interest to be as my vehicle was owned by someone in that club. there is a couple of pics of my car on their stall. Found that my car has been through the mitchell river . They were nice people - i gave out a AULRO card and asked them to have a look.
Landrover just are so not interested in sales - its so very annoying

I'm still not sure what it is that Land Rover dealers ARE interested in. :?
(Besides seperating you from your money).
And not buy doing something as difficult as selling a car to you. But if you pick one up somewhere they'll be happy to sell you exhorbitantly priced parts.
And the RR club doesn't want Series owners ?
They're not good enough for you mate - there are plenty of clubs that WILL (LROC etc) or just find some mates (AULRO is a good place to start) and get out there... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Copy that Vlad - Im not a series owner BTW - but its that BS toorak Tractor - elitesnt attitude that lets LR dealers keep on with their ****.
The sooner Ford seperate them from PAG the better - get em out in the bish - sell them for what they are - Defender - Without a doubt the hardest working $x$ in the country - instead of pusing the toorak Tractors and the freelander lemme see a dealer with 3 or 4 110's and 90's on the forecourt.
Landrover dealer in Parramatta 2 90's on the forecourt and thats it......
gives the soap box back

At least they had two....
I reckon they use the Defenders to get people into the dealaership (as everyone recognizes them as tough trucks and, sometimes secretly, wants to know more). Then they impress them with everything - and then say - but hey, this Disco / RR is much more comfortable and hey, its only another 30, 50, 90 grand !! It's only money after all.
Ah well, horses for courses but it WOULD be great to see a dealer network - an INTERESTED dealer network - spread across the country, approaching that of other manufacturers. THAT would sell Land Rovers.
Thanks for the loan of that soapbox. It's good, aye :!: style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Hi Vlad
Well I decided to keep my $5 for a beer.Sat in a nice looking Yellow D90,went to shut the door and gave myself a good wack on the funnybone.I cant belive the lack of room, why is the door lining nearly 3" thick? Then there was the underdash aircon and speakers, they are really cramped. Are all Defenders like this? There were no brocheres available for the fender or disco.I liked the Disco, first time Ive sat in one but legroom was only just acceptable, then behind the driver none with the seat in this posi.Barbagallos(the landy dealer/exhibiter) also had a new dualcab, its a Ssanngggyooonggg or something like that. Our looming problem with our Trytoo dualcab is the room in the back for our 5 foot 9yo son, this ssssannnngggg or what ever it is called has a full size rear seat, has a mercedes 2.9lt TDI 5 cyl diesel ABS 4 wheel discs(the jappers still run rear drums).Like their station wagons not that pretty to look at,but the price,from$29000.You cant buy a secondhand 12month old japper 4WD dualcab for that.
Had a good look at the new Ford Falcon 4WD station wagon, they are real nice to sit in,so much better than the commodore.wouldnt mind one if the lotto numbers work out,but then the new BA XR6 was awsome, they call it the F6 Typhoon,270kw and 550nm from the good old falcon 6.
Keep dreaming!!!!!!

Yes all Defenders are pretty much like that.
It's a love or or leave em alone thing.
Still it's not as if other brands haven't got their idiosyncracies so if you are prepared to look beyond the original impression of the ergonomics....
Also I'd suggest you take a long drive in one.. you may be pleasantly surprised.
The D90 is not a family car, so before you make up your mind, try to find a 130 dual cab Defender Ute or 110 Wagon and see if this suits the family thing.
Get onto http://www.landrover.com.au and have a look at the vehicles - can also get brochures and tech details etc from here.
There's no doubt that Ssangyong thingy appears good value for money.
If you like that kind of thing.
