In 1970, after returning to Subic Bay Naval base, for a week, after time on the gunline, my mate & I decided not to for go the flesh pots of Olongopo City, & go to one of the many clubs on the base. There we found a large contingent of US Marines, ****ed, about to sail for Vietnam the next day. Singing protest songs. We looked at each other, came to the same conclusion, as good mates do, & left for the flesh pots. Much better.:D Bob

♪ Love's Theme (adv. Cathay Pacific) #2 / Barry White & Love Unlimited Orchestra - YouTube

The music business is full of stories of artists who took a decade or more to become overnight sensations. Barry White had been working away at his craft since he was a teenager at the turn of the 1960s. He made a living as A&R man, session player and songwriter, but it wasn’t until the turn of the next decade that his career as a producer started to accelerate. Then he began making records under his own name, and the world discovered him. On October 26, 1974, just a few weeks after his 30th birthday, Barry White landed America’s No. 1 album.

Sad news this week as another of my favourite singers passed away :(

Jimmy Ruffin, silky-voiced singer of the Motown classic "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted," died Monday in Las Vegas. He was 78.

The Mississippi-born Ruffin had a performing career that spanned 50 years, from the '60s heyday of Motown Records to the digital music era. He was an older brother of David Ruffin, a lead singer of the Temptations, who died in 1991.

His death was confirmed by his children, Philicia Ruffin and Jimmy Lee Ruffin Jr., in a statement Wednesday. The family did not offer a cause of death.

[QUOTE=disco man;2273971][SIZE="3"]For those who have not got the new Pink Floyd album 'The Endless River' here is a few tracks plus a video clip, which is rare for the Floyd as they rarely make film clips. I think the video and song are very well made. Me personally I think its a great album but I am biased when it comes to Pink Floyd.

You didn't get my comment when we were last talking about this album..... I was going to try and get a copy signed by a certain drummer ;)

It's warm here tonight. The north wind has picked up. It's making a bit of noise and blowing through the house.
I'm finding it difficult to sleep, oddly, because something I heard earlier yesterday is repeating itself over and over in my head.
So, I got out of bed, cracked open a chilled bottle of my favourite sparkling shiraz from the Fox Creek winery, opened some dry biscuits, olives, sliced spiced meat, cheese, and sat back and listened to the evocative music.
Just watch Simon Cowell's body language.

LYRICS:
'Twas homeward bound one night on the deep
Swinging in my hammock I fell asleep
I dreamed a dream and I thought it true
Concerning Franklin and his gallant crew

With a hundred seamen he sailed away
To the frozen ocean in the month of May
To seek a passage around the pole
Where we poor seamen do sometimes go

Through cruel hardships they vainly strove
The ship on mountains of ice was drove
Only the Eskimo with his skin canoe
Was the only one that ever came through

In Baffin's Bay where the whale fish blow
The fate of Franklin no man may know
The fate of Franklin no tongue can tell
Lord Franklin with his sailors do dwell

And now my burden it gives me pain
For my long-lost Franklin I would cross the main
Ten thousand pounds I would freely give
To say on earth, that my Franklin do live.

And, what that song was about:
