What about this one then - used to be on Rage a lot way back when.... This one is off my favourite album of theirs - Violator - not a dud song on the album.:)

......How am I going???:D

Absolutely spot on so far. :D

This one is a bit more contentious for the subject matter, both of the song and video:

Ok, let's go a bit left field - any of these jog a few memories?

What about
Aztec Camera - All I Need is Everything (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0dbNUKy6QXM)

No no, its 1982 with a bullet, red background with graph pattern and a bullet 'line' too.

songs like Centrefold, Dirty Creature, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, What About Me?, Berzerk Warriors, Mickey, Daddy's Home---

sadly I recall them in the order the tape I copied the album was in.. :) but cannot recall them all.

there were a couple other songs I liked but as I said I cannot recall them... we could start a thread on just the compilation albums from back then,,,

starting with RIPPER 77 a very nice cover for a very young lad :)

Eclectic tastes . . . Whatever strikes a chord at the time,,, or resonates . Ranges from ENYA to the 1812, a blast of Purcell to the heart-tugging of Sarah and Andre saying 'Goodbye'. English madrigals by the King's Singers' some pop from my youth and even Xmas carols in July' the mix well tempered by traditional devotional, and seasoned with Vivaldi.

I have wide tastes in music, but my favourite is Beethoven's violin concerto, probably followed by his Symphony No 9. Other likes are especially various compositions of Bach, especially some of his organ music.

Also like some more recent work, including one noted above from Les Miserables.

Next time you're out camping and having your dinner under the stars, once you're done and the plates are cleaned away, your wine refilled and your backside well and truly comfy in the chair, slip on Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major.

I saw Out of Africa when I was a young lad and have been in love with this piece of music (and the idea of going to Africa) every since.

Everytime I hear it now I can smell and hear the camp fire, it's awesome.

Here's the second movement, played by the world's finest clarinetist, Sabine Meyer.

A national treasure this bloke. Definitely a worthy inclusion into this list.

I'm going to limit mine to 3.

1. Redgum - I Was Only 19. Part of me is incredibly grateful that I'll probably never have to go through what these blokes and all those before and after them did; another part wishes I could have the opportunity to stand in that hallowed pantheon. Dolce et decorum est pro patria mori and all that. Anyway, this one encapsulates all those feelings, I generally end up watching The Battle of Long Tan after I listen to this.
Redgum - I Was Only 19 (1983) - YouTube

2. Vivaldi's Four Seasons: Winter, in particular the second movement, which I chose for my mrs to walk down the aisle to. It's an incredibly calming piece of music.
This particular version is in my opinion the best one to be found on youtube.
Vivaldi - Four Seasons (Winter) - YouTube

3. Ben Webster accompanied by Teddy Wilson - Honoring Our Elders
If you watch this clip (I believe it was filmed in Copenhagen but don't quote me) you'll see Webster in tears during Wilson's piano solo. The story goes that they had just heard of Johnny Hodges' (peer of Webster, Coltrane and Ellington) death by heart attack. In addition to Webster being one of the finest tenor sax players that ever lived, this song and accompanying clip get me every time, both from the incredible emotion in both sax and piano but also the back story. Incredible piece of music.

Afro-American Work Songs in a Texas Prison - 01 / 02

These recordings were taken by the recently deceased Pete Seeger. Seeger and his wife Toshi Seeger, their son Daniel, and folklorist Bruce Jackson visited a Texas prison in Huntsville in March of 1966 and produced this rare document of work songs by inmates of the Ellis Unit.

If you ever wondered why there was such a distinct rhythm in some Afro-American songs the film shows why. The synchronisation of the axe or hoe fall is interesting to watch. Now let's not talk about workplace health and safety :)

It is great music to listen to while entering data into a spreadsheet for my research too.

Oh and there is this version of Afro-American Work Songs too :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7QF32mxftE

Recorded by George Benson and written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed. Creed wrote the lyrics in the midst of her struggle with breast cancer. The words describe her feelings about coping with great challenges that one must face in life, being strong during those challenges whether you succeed or fail, and passing that strength on to children to carry with them into their adult lives. Creed eventually succumbed to the disease in April 1986 at the age of 37 Accessed 27th March 2014 from The Greatest Love of All - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

I have seen it Lionel. I'm stuck in the eighties Ska music, just love it. I'm 55 and in the last three years have seen The Specials, Madness, The Selecter, English Beat all touring Austealia, (probably on their superannuation tours but who cares). It's music that lasts. Not like a lot of the crap that is peddled as music today. Or am I getting old?

When my kids pester me about my old music I remind them that if it is still getting airplay 40 years after it was first record it is great music, Presley, Orbison, Beatles, Stones, The Who, Cash, Eagles etc. When todays noise has died away lets see how many are still selling out concerts in their 70s like the Stones. By the way my 15 yr old son loves Hendrix and the Beatles.

G'day Bob,

Thank you for posting up the link for Men of Harlech.

The version of the lyrics scrolling up on YouTube is the Anglo-friendly version. This is ironic since the whole song describes events during the seven-year siege of Harlech Castle between 1461 and 1468. Commanded by Constable Dafydd ap Ieuan, the garrison withstood the longest known siege in the British Isles' history. My preferred version is the one written by John Oxenford (published 1873). Oxenford's version ends with the lyrics

"But this lesson we have taught them,
Cambria ne'er can yield!"

Oh by the way my surname is Evans :D

Kind Regards
Lionel

Im Tiefen Keller

As everyone knows, the repertoire for basso profondos is relatively limited. Unless you are directing a performance of Mahler or Rachnmaninov, you will rarely find yourself in need of a basso profondo. Those of us who like basso profondos should be thankful for Ludwig Fischer (1745-1824), a man who is directly and indirectly responsible for a substantial chunk of the basso profondo repertoire.
It was for Fischer that Mozart wrote the role of Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with the Act 3 aria "O, wie will ich triumphieren," in which Osmin descends to a meaty D2. It is clear that Ludwig Fischer was a formidable bass himself, but he is only indirectly responsible for this sector of basso profondo repertoire.
Fischer was directly responsible, however, for the German drinking song "Im tiefen Keller sitz' ich hier—in English, “In cellar cool, I sit me here.” Fischer wrote the song to showcase the bass range, originally spanning F2-F4.

Below is an English translation of the lyrics:
In cellar cool I sit me here, upon a pipe at leisure
And with a cheerful mind I order
Win in right good measure
The tapster draws a mighty glass
When he beholds me winking
I hold my cup high in the air,
when I'm drinking, drinking, drinking.

Poor me a thirsty demon plagues,
But I shall surely fright him,
and with my wineglass in my hand
I'll up and bravely fight him
The whole world seems rosy red
and ever to my thinking
I'd do no harm to any man
when I'm drinking, drinking, drinking

Pink floyd shine on you crazy diamond either the original from the wish you were here album or the live version from delicate sound of thunder. I am a massive pink floyd fan so i found it hard to pick this track ahead of other ones. But i guess the original thread was what music moves you and i chose pink floyd not only because their music i truly love but shine one you crazy diamond tells the tragis story of syd barret and also captures a time in the 70s when pink floyd were at the fore front of recording in different ways.
Pink Floyd,oh yeah.Favourite song depends on my mood.I want "on the turning away" played at my funeral.Gets me choked up every time i hear it.If you get a chance to see the tribute band"BEYOND THE DARK SIDE"do it .Closest thing to pink floyd i've heard:)

I had a great laugh a few years ago when one of my boys 'discovered' The Doors. He was most upset when I told him Jim Morrison had been dead for about forty years!

I love a very wide range of music but I do have a particular soft spot for instrumental music...

here is my contribution....

the video is a time lapse of a supercell storm developing to watch them both together is quite moving..

I wont say who the track is by because the name alone might put people off.

unfortunately it does cut the video a tad short compared to the one on facebook but you get the idea.

I often will be inspired by music when I do find a good album I will draw or paint to it....I lost my best friend (dog) a couple of weeks ago so I will painting a picture of him and I will be likely doing it while listening to The Tron legacy album

Tonight I did so and what do you know; apart from the lyrics I have always really liked the guitar playing. I particularly like lap steel slide guitars.
