Timing gasket leak. New timing chain?

Iv finally found 1 of the 2 leaks in the ol girl today. It appears to be coming from the timing cover gasket above the oil filter. As much as i dont want to, im thinking of paying a mechanic to replace it for 2 reasons: 1. It should be done correctly. 2. If it leaks or something else becomes a problem, well it wont be my fault.

Since its nearing 300k km, on original motor (service history is unknown) while the timing cover is off, might get the chain done too. What do you think?

Also would anyone have a rough price of the cost of this exercise (with and without timing chain)?

how much Growth work are you willing to look at doing at the same time?

And whats your time frame if the growth work needs parts?

sort of depending on time frame and a few other things.

Growth work is stuff that gets found on the way.

for example pulling the timing cover means pulling the belts, if the belts are knackered they need to be replaced, thats growth work.

essentially, How much do you want to fix while its in? or

What do you want to spend on the repair?

Ah i see. Really, just to stop the leak. Had a sit down and looking of the motor (whilst RTVing the **** out of where i think the leak is). Just a good fix will do for now, as its nearing 300k km and unknown service histroy i think ill aim for a rebuild and mild cam. Atleast that way ill know itll last the life ill have it.

If you are taking the cover off then you may as well put a new cam in as its most likely worn.

Would rad weld be able to stop it for the time being.
