Hi all
Recently, and only occassionally on start up, when I turn the key there is a slight delay then the car fires up. The longest would be a 1.5 second delay. Most of the time it's fine.
Any thoughts?
I'm thinking it could be the starter.
All battery leads/connections are fine.
Cheers

Which model? If it is the Isuzu, I would suspect the engine/chassis link under the alternator, or the starter solenoid. Can't comment on the other engines, but wouold expect something similar.

Sorry.
It's a td5.
I recently replaced the rocker cover gasket and there is a bit of old oil around the starter motor.
Perhaps it needs a good clean up around the connections.
I'll go there first.
Thanks

Don't ignore it, the intermittent nature gets worse.
Then one day, it won't fire at all. In a motel forecourt. Ask me how I know.
But switch off & on again, it's fine.
I didn't trust it after that & changed it.

Could be diesel contamination from a leaking fuel regulator, which sits just above the starter motor, or the contacts in the solenoid need replacing.

Sorry.
...............It's a td5............
Thanks
Most likely to be the contacts in the starter solinoid, very common problem with the Td5
See here for how to fix it...... Td5 starter repair (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-tutorials/76115-td5-starter-repair-diy.html)

Thanks all. I might get mechanic to look at that.
He said pretty much the same things.
