I was given 2 off these plaques the other week.
They came from Oberon, where they have been screwed to the shed wall for many years.
Can anyone tell me about the history of them?

I was given one by a life long family friend who was around in the club since these were introduced.
He told me they were made that size to cover the SMHEA sign that was on some of the members' vehicle doors.

That was the third edition and dates from around 1978. The majority of vehicles in the LROC Sydney branch were acquired second hand ex-government. The logos of the various departments SMHEA, NSW Forestry etc were all about the same size so it may be true. Ask Bobslandies as my knowledge goes back only as far as 1973 when I joined as a 15 year old.
The Federation was the forerunner of the current 4WD association of NSW and ACT.
BTW I have a pair of each of the two previous decals. If you ever want to part with them, I'm standing first inline. You can see one of mine stuck into the front of cookeys Mk3, that one is the second edition.

("Hello yes" - Mark, I'm thinking I got my early ones off the wife of who I think you were talking about, lived up the road from you?. She was treasurer of something at the time, I bought a pair of current ones and she als gave me the early ones which were cracked, so I mounted them on aluminium and covered them with contact to hold them together.)

Mrs hh:angel:
Carolyn,
Hello again.
I don't know when they were first issued, but the LROC in Sydney is selling a new line of the badge again - I bought a couple last year (top of photo).
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2014/01/22.jpg (http://s1226.photobucket.com/user/Tilly011/media/LR_SA_badges_20130124_01_zps8521c719.jpg.html)
There has been at least one other variant of the badge at some stage - pretty much the same except the small Land Rover is facing head on rather than semi-side on.

I wouldn't fancy screwing them to the doors of my pride and joy :( Stickers yes :)
They will happily go on the cupboard with all the others, just like S3ute has in his garage :)
Dianna, the previous owner died many years ago, my uncle brought them to me who once owned the PO series 2a:) I doubt I will give both of them up.

I was confused
My plaque is the size of a dinner plate, hence covering the doors of vehicles with other markings. All the other photos, besides Diana's, are radiator badges, big difference there :)

Hang on Mrs HH, I can only drive photobucket so fast :p
My dad was in LROC Sydney, would have been pre 1973, have a few piccies of some seemingly larger ones...
Looks like a sticker though?

Hard to see if it's a sticker or a plate...

Fairly certain I have some other photos with them, I'll try and dig them out :)

How are tehy meant to be secured to teh vehicle? The radiator badges mark posted up are secured by screws. The door badges came as an adhesive decal applied directly to the door. However some people stuck them onto an aluminium circle and secured those to the door with pop rivets.
Carolyn, are you suggesting that to get one off you I have to swap it with one of mine?

Note the vehicle has both the radiator badge on the grill and the decal on the guard. You can see the size difference.
The decal is mounted on an aluminium plate, rivited on as I suggested in an earlier post.

Yup. Got a few good ones of leon trying to climb the sand bank on the other side of the river at wirraba ridge having locked his hubs halfway through said river :D
Think the FC belonged to Ted Briggs.

I was wondering if it was Ted's or Dave Argyle's, but IIRC Dave's was grey.
I always thought Ted's Power Wagon was a beast but very capable.

Ahh yes, the mighty Power Wagon. Dad always said if it was big and ex-military, Ted would be interested :D

I have just looked again :) I thought mine were metal, on closer inspection the are in fact stickers stuck to a metal plate. Hence the reference to plaques:)

I remember my parents and family friends when we were in the LROCS in mid to late 70's. I used to crank the gestetner churning out the newletter. Heady days spent either away almost every weekend (one year we were away 49 weekends of the year) or a someones place making parts that back then weren't a consideration to buy off the shelf.

Sounds exactly like my dad's stories, he was the editor of the newsletter for a while I think.

By golly, I have never seen those before.
That would make an excellent badge for a T shirt.
In fact I am gonna.
I will remove the Sydney Branch and replace it with OLBOD.
I have half a dozen different designs on T shirts ( round collar now used as dress shirts ) and they draw attention and questions.
Now to get a new supply of shirts.

Not sure if you are aware, but most clubs sell shirts with their club's logo/badge on it as a fundraiser. You might do well to contact a couple of clubs and see what they can offer? I know the LROC(S) has some nice green shirts with the club badge embroidered on.
You can find the Sydney branch at Land Rover Owners' Club - Sydney - Australia (http://www.lroc.com.au) and contact the secretary or president using the emails supplied on the contacts page.

Cheers,The embossed LROC badge facing head on was the one designed and printed by Rover Australia Pty. Ltd. The Clubs had to get them direct from Rover in Sydney. These ones were all numbered on the back and according to the rules of the Club at the time they still belong to the LROC Sydney..
Attached, the two earlier door decals.
The early decal on the LHS would have been to one to cover the SMHEA decals.

Thanks Mark.
But to be honest I am not interested in promoting clubs as such, just Landrover and Aulro.
I purchased my first new Landy in 1962 and I still own and drive the Thingy's.
I consider myself a Landrover club member and proud of it.
Fact is I needed new T shirts so I decided to put transfers on the new ones. I used some of Inc's designs ( thanks Inc ) and they look really smart. I promote Landrover and Aulro wherever I am.
They cost next to nothing for me to make for myself.
Didn't end there tho.
I put a drawing that I did of my beautiful neice who died in a car crash in 1990 onto a T shirt. Gave one to The Bro also.
The girls and I cooked up a scheme to surprise a friend who loves his little Grand kids. They provided me with a pic of the three little kids together and I put it on the front of a T shirt.
He was wrapped.
Below is a pic of my Niece's portrait that I put on the T shirts.
The Bro also has the original framed.
Cheers.
