Just wondering if the MY13 models have a DPF on the Aussie versions. Cheers.

You can check the VIN on your vehicle to determine if a DPF is installed. Check this post to see how:

I was lead to believe Australian Disco's don't have DPF"s
From my experience with work - DPF & EGR's are swear words and should be avoided at all costs! Foul things, caused us all sort of gremlins

Hi,
I have a M14 disco and the VIN does not fit either in the link (SALLAAAN....).

I was told it had a DPF but sales guy.

I hope he was wrong as I went through some trauma with a DPF on my previous car (Pajero) where I eventually took off the DPF and replaced it with a Chipit dlete pipe. A noticeable performance improvement. Not sure if totally legal though :)

Register yourself on the topix site and enter your full VIN there. It will tell you every thing about your car:

TOPIx - TOPIx (http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/vehicle/lookupForm)

Just had a thought ( first one for the day ... ) if it had a DPF, it would most lightly have some form of warning lamp in the dash board, might see it on start up, on a truck we call it the fart valve... As it looks like a picture of a you know what with gas coming out of it :o

No DPF on disco's in oz yet, suspect EU5 spec cars at the next major update (D5?) will get it.....probably some compliance/testing process thing going on.

I think the display is mentioned in the hand book.

The display normally comes up at start time and then disappear or it did on my last vehicle (Pajero).

I haven't noticed it but wasn't looking for it and LR may do different.

I sure hope my car does not have a DPF - they are real pain and if you read the section on issues with DPF in the handbook you will know why :)

Richard

PS I like your description of it - it is appropriate :)

No DPF on my 2013 D4 (Aus/NZ spec). Glad as I do a lot of short town runs.
When I hook up my Nanocom it says something like ‘Lion 3.0 hi power -no DPF.'

So AU/NZ did get the 8sp but not the DPF?

I spoke to LR about it and in NZ some have it (especially the Jags) and some don't?

Easiest way to find out:
Vehicle Identification Number - DISCO3.CO.UK Knowledge Base (http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/VIN_Details)

Unfortunately this does not cater for MY 14 vehicles.

And even worse, I went to TOPIX and found my car has EURO STAGE 4 EMISSIONS which means DPF, I think.

This does worry me as I have been through this with my previous car and it was a continual concern. I went to the extent of having it removed but that is not totally legal.

There are also implications on oil quality, what you can use, you have to use the most expensive stuff. Also during re generations the quality of the oil is effected. I believe the LR monitors this and will warn you. Not good if you are in the middle of no where. I would recommend any one with a DPF to read the details in the handbook as it is possible to take action yourself if the light comes on.

I also have a big if concern over the LR service frequency, I would have thought a more frequent oil change would be required , I think it is even recommended after an active regeneration, this us with cars with DPF.

FYI based on my experience with a pajero.
If the amber light comes on and does not come off immediately you need to drive the car for say 30 minutes at 40 kph.

If the light does not go off you had to take it to Mitsubishi to do forced burn off, I think when this happens it is recommended an oil change is done but I don't think it was done when it happened to me.

Keep in mind there was a problem with the pajero DPF. It was eventually fixed and the LR should be better. I bloody hope so.

My understanding from LR is that Euro4 cars in Oz, including my14 cars, do not have DPF. Euro 5 spec discos will, sometime in the future.

I really hope you are right. I was told it had one by the sales guy though.

How can you tell as under TOPIX it does not mention DPF, just the EURO standard.

I know what one looked like on my Pajero as I had to give it to LR when I traded it in but have no idea about my LR :).

last resort... Have a look under the car near the front passenger seat. FoLlowing from the back Of the vehicle you will see the twin exhausts come together at the rear of the front muffler, next you will either have a straight pipe or the DPF.

Ripper it looks like I do not have a DPF.

I took a couple of pics , sorry about quality.

The diagram showing the DPF looks similar to the one on the Paj but I think smaller as the straight pipe I replaced my DPF with was longer than the one on the LR.

Many thanks for the above - gives me a lot of peace of mind

Good news. I think a most of the 2014 owners will be happy there is no DPF and no start/stop feature.

Started with the VIN check. Seems late MY13 doesn't match D3 VIN check.
Mine is SALLAAAN5DA******

Did the physical check SPD4's supplied pic. No DPF.

Good news. Seems the new Jeep GC's are having a whale of a time with the DPF's fitted.

One less thing to worry about. Cheers for all the advice gang.

I think the Jeep GC has a 30l tank of Urea to aid in emissions.
