View Full Version : 240v Air Compressor Hose Pros & Cons

I've purchased a 36 litre 2.5 HP compressor for the bottom shed as I got sick of carting the one I've got back & forth the 120 metres or so between sheds.
My question is: Is there a performance difference between the normal, noncoiled, reinforced air/water line & the recoil type pigtail looking line. I'm thinking for, say, a 15 metre length that the non coiled line would be the go.
Main uses would be tyre inflation & air cleaning using long/short pistol grip type guns.
At present, on the old compressor, I'm using a yellow coiled line which seems to struggle delivering above40psi & I know it's not the machine!

Pretty much comes down to internal diameter of the hose, and length.
Longer thinner hose will flow less than a shorter fatter hose.
Different fittings on the hoses can make a difference too. I think some of that coiled hose is probably only 6mm internal, and its fitted over a male fitting so probably lucky if its got a 4mm hole through it.
If it were me I'd probably look at some straight 12mm hose, with decent fittings, and ideally one of those retracting hose reels...

Thanks Steve
Pretty well what I had in mind.

The coiled hose is crap, good reinforced 12mm hose is much better as Steve said.

I was at my local Air Compressor place recently discussion hard points. Much cheaper than I expected.. Cheaper than a decent retractable.. Even with a few shorter flexiable lines. Also with ali hard piping avail up to 40mm the hard lines actually increase your air storage capacity. Just a thought :)

Pretty sure the heavy black plastic pressure pipe for water is rated high enough for compressed air too (confirm for yourself though  ).
I've seen it on the side of the road in larger sizes :wasntme:
