Hi all,
Preparing for a desert trip, no long range tank so will need to use several jerry cans. Having looked in the owners manual I have read he following "The filler spout on some fuel cans and
older fuel pumps may trigger the misfuelling
device." I haven't tried this yet as plan to borrow some cans as part of a camper trailer rental.
Also had come across this whilst looking for answers http://www.justanswer.com/australia-car/4rfow-land-rover-discovery-series-4-hi-folks-just-oztim.html

My question is
1) will this trigger every time the jerry can nozzle is inserted ( what kind of jerry can nozzle works )
2) related to this what is a good siphon to have in case of dirty fuel
Thanks :-)

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think this system is fitted anymore, my D4 doesn't have it, I've stuck all sorts on fuel nozzles in my filler without any issues.
I will be getting one of these things very soon.

Don't put the spout in so far as to reach the mechanism.

Had seen those Baz on eBay, what size were you thinking of getting?

Baz - you also have a long range tank and the mis-fuelling mechanism was probably removed.
I have refilled a fair few times with a metal spout attached to jerry can and can confirm it does indeed trigger the mis-fuelling device - if (as Graeme said) - you stick it in too far.
Cheers,
Rob

I think it says any more than 20ltrs go for the F8 or F15, I'm assuming the ones on Ebay are the genuine ones??

I've had it trigger once when I stuck the spout too far in; otherwise no problems.

I am also currently on a trip and carry two jerry cans. I have two metal Jerry Cans (Aldi) and purchased a Jerry can spout from Super Cheap Auto. I have used this three times without triggering the misfuel device.
It is a little tricky as you have to tip the jerry can sideways to actually empty it. The top of the Jerry Can hits the car if you hold it at a right angle to the car (as you would normally do when pouring).
My suggestion is just to get the standard Jerry Cans and Spout and give it a go well before you leave on your trip. It will probably just work fine.
