I know it's been done before but thought I'd share some results, vehicle is a UK 90 TD5.
I have an engine guardian which also monitors external gearbox temperatures, pre modifications towing the camper trailer saw temperatures upto 90 deg C and an uncomfortable amount of heat radiating from the hand brake area after approx 3 hours driving.
Since it's a UK car I had to source a thermostatic valve for the gearbox, I then ran pipes to the front of the car and fitted a 10inch oil cooler behind the winch. Next mod was to fit an extended sump to the transfer box which nearly doubled oil capacity, then finally wrapped the centre section of the exhaust, (centre box removed).
Drove upto Denham from Perth over 2 days, both 6 hour days with the camper loaded on the back and gearbox temp was sat around the 72-74 deg mark, speed was 100kph for most of the time. :)

Nice work ! Certainly paid off with that massive drop in temp.
Does any know if this type of modification is available for a PUMA ?

I dont think the MT-82 has a internal oil pump like the R380.
With a little time and money you could probably run an external pump and cooler set up. But does the MT-82 need it?

FWIW the external sump for the LT230 I know of add approx 500-600mls, far from double the original capacity

whats the oil capacity? Do you have any plans to do anything about said heat?

Yep,took the muffler out the other day,the cats going and plenty of insulation going on,the floor can get too hot to touch. Pat

EXHAUST HEAT WRAP BLACK 5M X 50MM ROLL + 8 STAINLESS TIES - MANIFOLD INSULATION
Is this the sort of stuff you are wrapping around your exhaust@ $15,. Looks like an easy win

I think it adds 0.8 of a litre so double was an exaggeration, but original oil capacity is just over 2ltrs so nearly an extra litre is a substantial increase. I'm sure you could work out the exact percentage increase but I ain't personally that anal.
The exhaust wrap was just the stuff you buy in Repco.

It's driveline heat not exhaust,I drove the Tallawana last year and burnt my leg on the handbrake lever,a good inch long burn, granted outside temp was over 50 degree's Celsius. Pat

The main reason for wrapping the exhaust was to remove heat away from the gearbox thermo valve and pipe work, this in theory can only help ;)

I got mine from a bloke in SA, I think he trades as Roamer Drive ?
He was cheaper than anyone else in Oz and IIRC it worked out the same or cheaper than sourcing OS.
The exhaust wrap definitely helps as it stops the exhaust super heating the transmission and floor.
Had it for years, (maybe seven ?) made an improvement in the cabin.

Do you have any picture of this extended TC case? I'm going to a local long rally so I want to protect it as much as I can. Do you know of any supplier in UK?
