Has anyone had this happen ? The door seal has disintegrated :( Car is only 5 months old and I first noticed it about two weeks ago. I could see my butt hitting that part of the seal when entering the car however I would hope that this type of problem wouldn't happen due to that.

Any ideas before I refer to the dealer.

Known issue for large butts but dealer should replace under warranty.

I had mine go after 6 months but I caught it before it got that bad. Mine was replaced under warranty.

Issue on d3 as well - at 9 years old I'm on my third ! Easy to change and they should do it under warranty I'd think.

Just noticed it on my RRS - 08MY, driver and passenger front.

Lucky I'm a bloke - a woman would take offence at that :p Must ask my wife if my butt looks big in my jeans though :D For the record, my butt's not that big. I have my seat back as far as possible as I'm 6'2" (ok I'm oldish) and you brush against that seal quite easily on entry and exit. Now that I know about the delicate nature of the seal I'll be more careful in future.

Good to know it's covered by warranty.

I have had three new ones in my D3 and it needs another one now, it is a very poor design/quality.

I guess that says something about my butt:eek:

Mine has gone drivers side. I t has a lot to do with how you get out of the vehicle. I have side steps but still slide out the door.

Getting in the car I also tend to put my left leg in and slide into the seat rather than 'climb' in so I'm probably hitting it both ways. :oops2:

Once my dear mother said something about putting both feet in first .... Not sure about that mum :)

I recall a saying about jumping in with both feet. Maybe I/we should run up to the door opening and jump in with both feet to avoid touching the door seal. :spudnikhalfback:

I have had at least 4 x replaced by warranty over 2x D4"s, along with some door trims. My seals get damaged by the seat belt not retracting, the seat belt hangs
halfway in the door and bangs and cut the seals and trims to bits. Very annoying.... As it happened over 2 x new cars, has anyone got a easy fix for the seat belt not retracting? I'm sure it can't be the only one with this issue.

Thanks
Jack

Hi Jack.

I don't personally have the issue but my wife does sometimes. Usually caused by her pushing the belt towards the door and causing a twist/fold in the belt that gets caught in the top runner that feeds down to the bottom of the door pillar. Then then belt hangs out the door. If it's not that maybe the retractor mechanism needs tightening up - could be a loose or broken spring.

I don't seem to have a problem with mine and the cars 2 yrs old.
I am however quite OCD about how I get in and out. I also encourage my wife and kids to be the same, which doesn't always go down that well.
We all have regular type butts.
