My uncles diesel D3 has on four occasions today simply lost power while driving.
A number of lights turn up on the dash. The engine still runs but there is no power the car just slowly losses speed until you are just barely moving (10km/h)
This is the dash when the power issue is present;
77020
I told him to burn it but I guess my advice may not be as good as others. So if any one can point us in the direction to resolve this issue it would be much appreciated!
It's got another issue of the low speed shudder which I beleive is related to the auto needing a service.

Is there a split intercooler hose?

Does he get a flurry of bongs from the dash, and lots of errors showing up in the "information centre"?
Has he had a code reader on it?

Has the vehicle just been washed &/or detailed.

Not sure but the fault is not constant. It happened once previously and never again until today.

The dash shows numerous extra warnings. as per the image.
No code reader on it as yet.

Lol vehicle has not been washed since the first week of ownership :D

Argh! ...well that's the problem D3's always like to look their best so its stopping as a protest. Its simple just wash it and it will be fine. ... ;)

The battery could also be a factor.

All of the above... plus this happens when the HPFP dies. :o

Come to think of it, I also had this when the dealer installed the steering wheel sensor 180 degrees out. On motorway at 110 km/h and then it does and drops to access height... not pleasant!

Try the turbo when the actuator seizes it can do the same as you describe
then you can cycle the ignition and all is good

You can get some spray in cleaner that can help.
B&S put some in mine and it helped.
Presto

Is it blowing heaps of black smoke?
This happened to ours when the intercooler to turbo pipe split on ours (as Graeme mentioned above).

Earth fault?
Will add these two to the 'check' list!

Ok ill suggest he washes it today and see how that goes :D

Sorry for my noobness, what's the HPFP? Don't think I have one of them on my old classic rangie :)

That is pretty poor. This is a pov pack with springs all round!
Still got lots of electricity flowing through it thou!

Cycling the ignition does solve the issue, so this is something to look into further.

I suggested a better cleaner, its not a spray bottle thou. It comes in a jerry can and you simply pour it on, around and in the vehicle!

No smoke that i am aware of!
I will attempt to get this on a code reader this week. My uncle is using the vehicle today and it has not had the fault as yet!
He did confirm that as well as the light show in the information centre is does bong/chime to notify of the warning.
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions to date, give us something to prepare for once the codes are read!
Cheers

BCM (body control module???) Fault recorded!
Does anyone know what this means!?
The fault had not occurred for ages but it has just done it again today!

yes, BCM, what was the code, do you have a code reader? if not you need to have it looked at by someone with diagnostic gear.
Baz.

I did not see the codes read my self but I believe it was something along the lines of 'incorrect data received'.
What is od is this is a coil sprung pov pack disco I though BCM was related to the air system?
May have to get it read again!

It controls the ABS/TC as well.

I'm pretty sure the BCM also controls A/C, power windows, odometer and lots of other stuff hanging off the body too.
