Yes, the Rubix cube is 40 years old today.
Who, like me , failed to ever achieve solving it?
Who , unlike me , mastered it and in what time could you solve it?
40 years.....hell.....what happened to my youth?

I just told SWMBO it was the Cubes 40th.
She thanked me for reminding her how old she was!
It was no trouble.:D
I solved it, but bought a book to cheat.

I can do the first 2 layers easily enough (or I used to be able to) but I needed to cheat and look at the solution to the last layer. I had a bit of paper with the corner flips and edge twirl solutions on it...:D

i can do one side and get all the side pieces correct pretty easy,
I am working on learning the 2nd level and after that, argh, need the cheat notes
I brought one only a few weeks ago in the uk to releive the boredom

I solved it a young age by pulling it apart and putting jot back together the right way. I thought I was very clever. Cheating I know. I could solve one side and one row. I wouldn't mind getting one for my daughter.

My 15 year son, three weeks into a nine week leadership course, has email me a week ago asking for a ‘Speed Rubix Cube’. The reason, because he just has to have one.
I’ve just reminded him that old things are still very desirable! :D

With a bit of practice (lots of flights from Perth to Sydney), I got it down to about 90 seconds - 2mins pretty consistently.
Must go find it and give it another crack.

Initially learnt from the old man, recently got back into it with the aid of online solutions.
Can consistently do it in 90 seconds, record is just under a min :)

I solved it . I cant believe it's 40 yrs old, it must have only made it to aus in the late 70's because i remember getting one not long after they came out and i'm sure i was at least 10/11 ? I also had the snake cube which i bought in 1981 on a family trip to Sydney.

Same - first 2 layers are "easy when you know how" ;)
That last layer on the other hand, is a bit of a mind boggler and I was never patient enough to learn the (lengthy) sequences
