Our sbs news thinks that soccer is a top news story it belongs in sport. That's when I turn off. So sport is more important than other world news. Also why can't they have subtitles for the very extensive news services from across the world. It is all good and well to have this service but if we can't understand it how can we understand other opinions

Other channels do the same thing so we record the news, then fast forward through the sport and adverts. It cuts a 1 hour news programme down to less than 20 minutes.

SBS: Sex Between Soccer.
Just as bad as the other channels that make out some other show on their channel(The Voice, X Factor etc) is news. IT ISN'T!

So, the world cup is not important to you, that is fair and your absolute right, but it isto a lot. So you would rather see car accidents, violent assaults, more on the middle east crisis first??? I for one think it is actually good to see a news story up front instead of violence and death straight up. Maybe you would like the finance report first. I suppose you feel the same about Olympic sports, NRL and AFL as well. It is SBS and for most ethnic or even English background people soccer is important.

For an awful lot of people especially from third world countries, soccer, sorry,FOOTBALL,is about all they have!SBS don't have subtitles because it is aimed at ethnic minorities, not aussies.

SBS don't have subtitles because it is aimed at ethnic minorities, not aussies.
But the strange thing, as the other channels get worse and their Australian content is limited to rubbish like Dancing With The Stars etc, more Aussies turn to SBS, a lot isn't specifically ethnic.

Yes, I guess that the Football world cup is irrelevant, it is only followed by just over a billion people so it does not deserve to be in the news and occupying time that can be dedicated to AFL, rugby or cricket :D
Criticize the SBS world news have to be the biggest joke when it is compared with what the other channels offer.

I was not criticizing sbs news as such but there is a segment in the news called sports that is were sport belongs. I can then turn off when it comes up.

I can't see the problem.
There is a weather section at the end of the news, but if a weather event is sufficiently catastrophic, it could lead the bulletin.
There is a finance section, but if some financial news involves a large enough sum of money or perhaps enough Australians having lost their life savings, it might be the first item.
If a murderer has been arrested, it might be the lead item, even though a lot of us might not have heard of him.
If the Pope visits Australia, it might be given prominence over all the other news items in spite of the fact that many Australians don't adhere to the faith that he represents.
The fact that I am not directly affected or that I am not particularly interested is not a reason for me to criticise the decision to lead with that item.
Even though you might not be interested in soccer or indeed any form of sport is not a reason to criticise the programming decision made by SBS. You might not be interested, but an enormous number of people are. Like it or not, the World Cup is an event of enormous interest to a lot of Australians and people all around the world.
I would hazard a guess that more people are interested in World Cup results and particularly the Socceroos' performance than are interested in the fact that it is now two years since Julian Assange sought refuge in the Ecuadorean embassy.
Just because it is sport does not automatically make it unimportant. A piece of sporting news can lead the bulletin just as a piece of financial news or weather related news can.
I don't personally consider sports news to be very interesting and don't follow any football code, but I can understand why SBS took the view that World Cup news is of interest to enough people and the performance of the Socceroos was sufficiently newsworthy for it to lead the news bulletin.

If anybody wants to watch the NEWS, then, ABC..........wait for it.............
All the others are Pantomimes. All quick snippet sound bytes of something that should be considered more relevant.
The News readers talk down to you, and most of the reporters are absolute tarts who are more worried about how they appear whilst slinking toward the camera talking to you like you're an infant, whilst gesticulating with enough movement to knock a nearby Horse over. Or 'blokes' who are far too concerned about the type of knot tied on their ties.
Commercial News is for lazy people, who don't really give a toss about the News to begin with. (bit like Commercial radio really)
SBS used to be an excellent news service, and I would still go there, Whilst ALL News services 'share' other networks' coverage of certain events, it has become far worse on SBS in recent times, probably due to funding.
It's ABC all the way for me.:)

SBS news is not the same since around the time Mary Kostakidis left.
Even so, it's a World News. The biggest thing going on in the World at the moment is the World Cup. Followed by Iraq. I don't think it unreasonable to see that at the start of the bulletin, edging out corrupt HSU officials, car crashes and stabbings.
As for subtitles, there are a foreign few movies on there that don't need them…
