Tried a search but no luck , has any one put usb/12 volt pugs in the rear of the centre console.
Kids are wanting to charge electronic things , i reckon they should look out the windows more often and see the world ,but..... :D

USB is 5v, not 12.

What model, year, trim level do you have. My MY12 D4 HSE already has a 12V cig lighter outlet at the back of the consol. We just use a cig to USB plug in there. A high current one can give you ~3A USB.

I have twin 2.1a (iPad charging) USB outlets replacing the ciggie lighter thingo in the rear. Permanently powered from the second battery so I can charge things (camera, go pro etc) whilst away from the car. 80331

Sorry it is 08 SE , I have seen a vehicle with a USB & 12 volt unit in the back , it may have been one the Narva type units

I wired one of these in - it's a 12v to 5v USB transfomer. And yes, it's a 3A supply.

Thats a nifty bit of kit dave, where did you mount it ?

Crawal, I was going to keep my ciggie lighter thingo as well as the usb socket but there was not enough room in the panel to mount the usb socket because of my aux in wiring (I was quite surprised but there is a big block of 'stuff' at the back of the aux in socket) - not sure if this is because it is an '05 or because it has Logic7. I was disappointed, but no big deal really as I have four others around the car (one of which has permanent power). If you're not after permanent power to the USB, then just use one of those usb things that plugs into the socket (you can get ones that will charge an iPad).

I've got one mounted behind the H trim to power my cheap integrated GPS, and one mounted behind the centre console, where the aux input would probably be on your D3.

I've got a couple of spares if you're interested. ;)

Thanks, current setup works well for us ! Nifty thing, you could run a few devices off that at once via a hub.

That's what I had in mind originally but the panel on the lhs in my pic is where the aux in is and it is full of "stuff" so I took the route as pictured.

I've fitted two Narva units I got from Autobarn.
One is wired from the second battery and run through a circuit breaker to the rear luggage area and has a cigarette plug and a dual USB under the second cap.
The other is plugged into the cigarette unit in the dash, screwed to the side of the transmission tunnel and has two ciggies and one USB. Using the existing dash plug means that unit switches off with the ignition and doesn't flatten anything. It also came pre-wired.
Having the rear unit run to the second battery means I can run a fridge when the vehicle is stopped and be confident the dual battery unit won't let it flatten the starting battery. Also, both units can easily be removed if necessary.
No reason why my unit from the second battery couldn't have been run to the rear of the centre cosole instead.
Hope that helps. Its really not that hard, even for an electroklutz like me.
