Hi all would like to know if anyone has used Penrite Pro-Gear 75-90 in their diffs . Penrite listing says it is suitable for front and rear (non-locking) comes in 2.5 lts for $68.

I haven't used it - why not the specified Castrol SAF-XO - 75W/90. Is freely available.

Cheers Gary, living up in Gladstone not much in the way of large auto shops with a lot of different oils etc. Would rather use castrol but was thinking of it as a last resort . Found the penrite on the shelf in bundaberg going back there in a fortnight so will keep looking around.

I am currently using the Penrite oil in the diffs on my D4. All good so far.

Am about to run Nulon "Full Synthetic 75W-90 Performance Smooth Shift Manual Gearbox and Transaxle Oil" in my diffs and transfer case. Will advise if there is any change. BTW, what twit comes up with a capacity of just 610ml of oil in a front diff???

I assume that LSD oil is needed for the e-diff?

Yep agree but the diff would be lucky to hold 750ml anyway, so filling it the old way don't add much extra.

Put it this way ... a Subaru Liberty takes about 1L of oil in the rear diff, Subaru say to change it effectively every 3 years and they don't break diffs ... on the other hand, you have LR who put in about 3/4 of that in their rear diff, tell you to change it every time haleys comet comes past and intend their vehicle to be subjected to significantly heavier duties than the Sube ... twits indeed, to be polite about it.

Not quite right the rear diff holds 1.1 ltr in the non e- diff but get what you are saying.

Evidently so, but I'll double check before adding it. Thanks for the warning.

I would have a think about putting that in the tfr case - diff probably OK but the tfr case is special and as far as I am aware the specified oil is only available from Landrover.

Your local Castrol distributor should have it.

GarryI've always found that diffs with friction plates need some sort of friction modifier rather than straight gear oil. I'm pleased that the front diff on my tractor only needs a tube of a specific additive with normal EP gear oil rather than a manufacturer's specific oil.

looking for some info from oil knowledgeable persons
Have to change boots on front shafts and will top up diff oil with recommended oil, BUT what is recommended grease for half shafts?
Will likely get a couple of sachets with boot kit, but in case I don't get enough; molybdenum disulphide grease ??, same as most other CV's ?

Thanks Unseenone, have filed that list away.
Still not able to get a definite on what grease goes into the CV's.
I'm thinking molybdenum disulphide, but cannot see anything specific in the manual.Seems to work for everything else with a CV joint.

I can't imagine it is far different from what other MFR use. I would think that what comes with should be sufficient. Here you will see a product advertised for CV Joint Grease, it's only 3% Molybdenum Disulfide

Joint Grease (http://www.norrecind.com/html/joint_grease.html)

Here is a document for Ford, which breaks down all their lubricants.
