It seems that the aussie car makers might have finally come up with some decent designs .................. just before they shut up shop and we are left with lesser quality American crap.
I've always hated the high corner tail lights on the dunnydoor sedans - but the latest model has finally addressed this and come up with something that looks way more decent (although you could be forgiven for mistaking it for the rear end of a Mazda 6).
And Ford Australia's designs for the Falcon haven't done anything for me for many years.
Just saw the pics below of the upcoming Fords ...........
The first one is the new XR8 - supposedly a true likeness.

And below is what the next GT is supposed to look like. Not pics released from Ford, but hopefully close to the real thing. Best looking Ford since the XW/XY GT's if you ask me.

I hope the rear end treatment looks better in the metal.

Look very similar to the Ford Fusion the Yanks already have. I believe we are headed that way as far a 4 door family sedans go.

Yes - they say that the Falcon is using some of their "global" styling cues, and the front end looks like almost an identical copy of the Fusion.
Fortunately they don't appear to be copying the rear end styling of the Fusion - looks like a Mondeo or any of a number of other el-cheapo buzz boxes on the road.

I suspect the Falcon suffered from having to use parts of the abominable AU Falcon design. Later variations were much better looking, even the BA.
Having said that, I think the BF (well, in XR6 form :) ) is better looking than the FG.

I saw the pic in yesterdays paper too.Thought it was an improvement in looks over the current XR6.

Still sticking to big sedans with either a 6 or 8 in them. Haven't they learnt that that the market no longer wants this?

Falcon is available with a 4 cylinder turbo. Goes well too.

Only for a short time, this is the last falcoon, only having a production run of 2 years,if that.No more Territorys either.
They will be introducing the Mustang to replace the performance Fords.

The Fusion is/will be available as a FWD although I believe a AWD variant maybe happening. Engines are diesel, petrol and Hybrid. I would hazzard a guess that a plug-in hybrid would be available (from most manufacturers) eventually.
Not sure if we (Oz) are going to get the(NASCAR) V8 version though :D

No, they haven't! And dare I mention the 'diesel' word..... With a car that looks as smart as that they could fit a 4 litre V6 twin turbo alloy diesel that goes like a cut snake, uses no more than 6.5lt per 100km and then would help open up the biggest car market to the idea of diesel.... We all know how well the modern diesel goes.... Rather than offering diesel Epica's, Captiva's and all the other un inspirational smaller cars, they just need to fit a fast diesel into a Falcon or Commode and Australian drivers will do the rest. :)

All they needed was to put the Landy V6 diesel in the Falcoon like they did with the Territory, the Foulcan already runs the same 6 speed auto as the Territory and D3/early D4!!!!

IIRC they stuck it in a Jag as well, so the concept of a V6 diesel RWD sedan is not new to them.

who says Australians dont want a RWD full size sedan with the option of a V8? I know I sure as hell do, and with the demise of the Falcon platform, the chances of me buying a new Ford have evaporated....

A retro XL , that would be cool, My first car was a '62 XL , great car except I kept blowing up and rebuilding gearboxes - something that continued happening when I traded it on my first Series II
