My sister was pulled over a few weeks ago by police after the numberplate recognition camera picked up her numberplate and alarm bells over unpaid fines showed up. This is where the sherriff's dept is on hand to clamp your car. She bought this car from a dealership nearly 12 months ago. After showing her driver's licence to prove she was not the person wanted she was let go. The police woman told her that she will be pulled up again as it's the numberplate that is used to find these people.
Now one would think that once you buy a car and the purchasers details are entered at Vic Roads then change of ownership is certified and you would think that rego number would be cleared on the warrant list. So such luck.
Sister gets pulled up again three weeks later, same police woman, who recognized her from last time, said to my sister to go on get going, but get your number plates changed as you will be continued to be pulled up in the future.
One would think that everything would be ok after Vic roads change over ownership occured, but sadly not, so she got new number plates, at her expense.
