I just had the following mods done. The result was... Stunning..

- De EGR
- De CAT
- Straight through pipe instead of the middle muffler box
- Bruce Davis Remap.
- I have the same sized original exhaust all the way through

As I said the performance is stunning and it's now way more fun to drive than my new PUMA, which now feels broken in comparison... BUT if anything it's using a little more fuel, mainly because I'm wringing it's neck every time I drive it - My wife manages to get slightly better fuel economy out of it than she used to..

I think the biggest difference was the remap. I think just doing the exhaust would give a placebo effect, and perhaps a minor difference, but not enough to justify the cost...

BB you had a TD5 with a Cat? Unusual ;)

I think the Australia EU3 TD5 models post 2003 had a cat in the down pipe just behind the engine. I've got the downpipe sitting in my shed now, just in case I need to re cat it at some stage. I suspect a lot of the performance boost might have been because that cat might not be flowing very well after 250,000 ks...

Just bought a variable geometry turbo for my TD5 together with the bigger intercooler, 3" exhaust and BAS remap the Defender flies.,

We picked a friends Defender with same moods up from Perth and did 4.8ks in 3 days
It's such a pleasure to drive.

Steve what turbo did u end up getting looking at doing this to my defender and how are you controlling the boost..vacuum or pressure actuator. Im also in perth if you got it from a local shop, I've been looking at patrol turbos and some stuff from euro cars trying to find out cheapest easiest option.

cheers Brian

Also luggy with mine I was just looking at swapping my centre muffler with a hiflow muffler that way it should still keep the drone down and flow a bit better. Also with the cat Its odd mines a 2004 and has no cat so must been after that coz looks very stock to me

Is your 2004 a south african build or uk. I suspect the south african got a cat and the uk did not.

Its td5 110 extreme so at a guess would say south African... see I would have thought it would be uk build with cat cos of stricter emission laws in Europe but this is all just guess work being I've owned a defender less than a month haha

Toombi no pipe has been removed haha was mentioning that I dont have a cat on a 2004 defender and doesnt look like it ever did... only thing I was thinking of swapping on exhaust was centre muffler but keen on a new variable vein turbo just not the price
