Hi all

I am trying to find an attachment for a hi lift jack for removing star pickets. I am unable to find anything on E-Bay and very little comes up on google. I am sure there was such a product around some years ago, I remember seeing them advertised in the Trading Post or The Land maybe 20 years ago. I imagin it would be pretty easy to jerry-rig something for a one off, but I have a lot of these things to remove so need something a little more substantial.

Appreciate if anyone here can point me in the right direction?

Cheers

Not sure on an attachment for the Hi Lift mate.

But do a google on Waratah Post Lifter, they're a solid jigger. Used by a family member on a farm. Not sure who sells them.

Try a short length of chain in a loop, a pin or bolt through a hole in the dropper, chain goes under the pin to the opposite side of the dropper and over the jack lifting foot.
Just jack away to your hearts content.
I did similar with two bottle jacks, yuk, that took some time and bending.

You could try what nismine01 said, or just buy Davis Starlifter !

Brilliant bit of kit, it's a cant hook, log roller, log support (for saw use) and star picket puller all in one.
It was designed primarily for fencing contractors, the star picket puller works brilliantly.

I used a bit of chain as well for fence stumps. Worked great.

I have a bought steel picket puller back from my sod buster days works a treat.
At work we made our own tool that we use to pull them with a backhoe or loader. It would work equally as well on a high-lift jack.
Its simply a triangle shaped piece of 3/4" plate with the star picket triangle cut out of it with the oxy set,it slides neatly over the picket. On the point of the plate there is a hole drilled where a rated shackel attaches a length of hi-tensile chain.

Thanks all

Some brilliant ideas there. I know about the Davis starlifter and a couple of similar ones. Was just looking at a cheapish solution. Got about three hundred to replace along a creek so they are all in pretty crappy nick. Many are bent from years of floods so will no doubt snap at ground level when I apply some pressure.

I use a Crescent 383 gripper with my FEL on my tractor. It grips the star picket and lifts it without bending the picket.

Would work fine with high lift jack

you could do something like this:

Removing Fence Posts « The Anonymous Widower (http://anonw.wordpress.com/2010/12/05/removing-fence-posts/)

or scroll down to #34 on this thread:

All I used to use was a couple of D shackles from the hardware store. Find one that fits through the star pickets and another one to attach it to your high lift jack. Simple and cheap.

Bit of 8 gauge fencing wire is all you need!:D. Hard to find shackles out bush!!! Other alternative is to use a 44 gal drum as a lever, however make sure it is one of the older 44's with the steel rings, the new ones are as weak as **** and will just bend!.
