Hi all

I just noticed this.....I have always had issues with the silicone failing slightly after say 10,000kms....so am going to try this.

Land Rover Defender 300 TDI Sump Gasket | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Land-Rover-Defender-300-TDi-Sump-Gasket-/201056236558?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ecfe2b40e)

Anyone had any experience with the cork gasket on the 300Tdi sump?

Cheers

A old mate of mine who is a Caterpillar trained mechanic, hates silicon when it is used instead of gaskets, as he has seen lumps of silicon blocking oil ways and pickup's causing some very expensive damage.

My idea is, with a bit of care as you apply it and by tapering the wet silicon from a little at the inside edge to thicker on the outer side of the joint.
On assembly the amount of silicon that is then displaced towards the inside is then minimal.

yep got one on my 98 defender tdi had it put in when I got a t seal leak
works great replaced the bolts as well.
t seal now only leaks about 50ml every 1000ks or so, will fix it when I do my rebuild next year, sump gasket smeared with a bit of aircraft gasket goo
no more leaking I used a tension wrench as well
cheers.
