Still too expensive in my opinion.

I just use my iPhone's if needed but I hardly use nav at all maybe once a year so can't see the point of it.

Update or not? "It depends"
If there are new roads where you drive and need to navigate or errors, you may get a benefit.

The "how to guide" is here.

If I could access a disc to make a "backup" from I would.

How do you know what version you have now?

Disc is not the issue, you require an activation key generated from your VIN to be entered into the SatNav when doing the update.

Is that the case with D3 systems ?

BJM you can eject the disk and see what version it is ((D3), I'm sure there is some other way but that's easy.

I purchased the disc for my05 a couple of years ago it only has 2008 maps on it. It seems that when Tata purchased Landrover they put future update disc's on hold. Sensis only had one disc left that they found for me. They said that it was now discontinued and Land rover aren't releasing any updates. So it comes as a surprise to me that they have now released a disc that has support for 2005 to 2009 D3, If I am right this disc should have 2014 maps. I may purchase one.

I knew there was a good reason why I didn't tick the "SatNav" option box and bought a Hema instead .................. :D

You can never have too many maps haha !

Also the navigation lady as we call her has a very nice voice albeit not so accurate maps as mine have never been updated !

How do you know what version you have now?

I have a NOV 2013 D4. Earlier this year I asked the dealer how to check what version it had as I was interested in upgrading if it was worthwhile. They said that there is not a way to find out. If you click on the link in Fred Nerk's post you'll see a similar discussion there.

The update for NSW has the following additions and IMHO is not worth paying $199.00 for. I realise that there may be other changes but how do you know if it's worthwhile?

Major New Roads:

Construction of 3.1km Link Road between roundabout intersection of the Pacific Highway and Brittania Drive Wanobbi and Sparks Road and Albert Warner Drive , Warnervale.
Widening of F5 Freeway from four to eight lanes between Camden Valley Way and Brooks Road.
Camden Valley Way upgrade – Bernera Road to Cowpasture Road.
Camden Valley upgrade – Narellan Road and Cobbitty Road, Harrington Park.
Central Coast Highway upgrade – (Stage 1)Carlton Road to Matcham Road.
A 54 kilometre section of Main Rd 92 (MR92) between Hames Rd (15km southwest of Nowra) and Nerriga is being upgraded.
4.5km of two lane road to be built with an additional 1.2km of southbound overtaking lane at Gounyan Curves.
Woomargama Bypass – Construction of dual carriageway bypass on the Pacific Highway at Woomargama.
6km section upgraded to dual carriageway form Wrights road to the Pacific Highway, west of Port Macquarie.
Pacific Highway 9.6km dual carriage way upgrade from Perrys Road to Lyons Road and included a bypass of Bonville.
Tarcutta bypass (Hume Highway) –Construction of dual carriageway bypass on the Pacific Highway at Tarcutta.
Banora Point upgrade, Pacific Highway -2.5km of six lane road including new interchange and realignment of Laura Street.
Hume Highway – South Marulan interchange south of Marulan.
Pacific Highway upgrade – Ballina bypass (southern intersection).
Pacific Highway speed upgrades at three locations.

The update in this thread is only for denso equipped D3 and RRS. We've not had an updated disc for at least 5 years probably more. So for some it will be very worth it and for others it will be too exxy for our somewhat decrepit nav systems with the nice voice !

I just got it, hardly any difference, just a few more roads by the look. I was on V15 beforehand.

Worth it you think to have updated maps ? No change to functionality of the nav I assume ?

PeterOZ

functionality looks the same. I'm just a geek who likes the latest! It's expensive but since the last update was several years ago, I thought it was worth it.

Not a chance! Not when my Garmin comes with free map updates.

Yeah I can't understand having satnav in the car. I'll stick with Google Maps on my iPhone and local knowledge for most else!

I was told by the local dealer in Canberra the maps were not due out until next year ?
How old is this release ? Is it current as of 2014?

I've just acquired a back up of V19 maps. I copied it to a disk and chucked it in, but it doesn't seem to work on my 2005 D3.

I've had a couple of drinks so I may have done something wrong. I'll check it out again tomorrow.

The original disk I pulled out was v16

Has anyone had the problem of the nav system not letting you enter a destination? The touch buttons are not highlighted only the state and the previous destination buttons
Tried a default reset? Worked once after a few attempts but went back to not letting you enter a new destination???

Can't say I have seen that one.

Wild guess - it's not in off road mode is it?

As I said, wild guess :p

Haven't used off-road mode yet just looked at the options. I will double check

A warning. Purchased an upgrade for MY11 D4 from Navigation Australia. They initially confirmed I could install it. It cannot be installed without dealer assistance - thanks Land Rover. It cannot be done without the electronic security codes and the dealer has the electronic tool. Navigation Australia eventually agreed with this but also said I would need a firmware upgrade. This is not needed. The product supplied was not fit for purpose. An unpleasant experience brought on by poor design from Land Rover.

I'm still debating whether or not to get the new map. I was kind of hoping for an entire firmware update to fix up the Bluetooth options in my 2010 Disco 4. After reading these posts perhaps a stand alone with free updates is the way to go.

Could be this... I just got an MY12 Disco and couldn't work out why I couldn't enter a destination sometimes even though it had worked before. Then realised that it doesn't allow entry whilst moving. If you're stationary then it works. Could this be the issue?

Either way, the system is not very intuitive.

I purchased the V20 disc before Christmas as I had V10 before. Much prefer the built in unit albeit a little limited than fumbling around with iPhones when driving.

For all those disco 3 owners with the DENSO navigation units.
It has come to my attention that a ( Backup ) disc can be made from even a TOYOTA and possibly other branded discs that are made for DENSO units. The latest V21 Map disc is available for some other brands.
With the use of copying programs like ANYDVD plus DVD burning programs.
Just thought i would share this with you all.

Land rover should update FOC if you get car serviced at dealer. Given the initial stupid price charged, updates should be automatic and free.
Garmin provide free lifetime mapping on a $100 GPS so manufacturer should be doing same. Suggest all write a letter to JLR to that effect. The days of charging for map updates should be well and truly over.

I don't use the inbuilt GPS.
I tend to use Google maps when in towns and have hema explorer both on my mobile an tablet when travelling...
Cheers
