Nice video. I will have to try to find the rest of the test and have a look.
When travelling in convoy with a 200 series with similar setup of touring gear and roof top tent, I was always backing off when following the 200 and overtaking slower vehicles on the open road. I also used less fuel at every fuel stop. My car is a 2010 D4 3.0SE.
I had a couple of drags with my son in law's 4.8 petrol Patrol in the NT last year. He had a roof top tent and I had a 1800kg camper trailer. I left him for dead on both occasions. This was starting from about 60kph, not standing start and the first time he reckoned he was in the wrong gear and wanted a rerun!

I suspect a 200 driver tried to get away from me yesterday on a few km section of local dirt back-road that resembled a rally course. My on-demand 30mm lift came handy on the rougher sections that also triggered TC but his dust was my limiting factor. I might have to grab the video before it gets over-written.

Edit: Not a 200, only its litte brother.

Don't really know what any of that proves really. Both vehicles are non standard.

Interesting that the 200 was slightly faster off the line and then the D4 took over. Probably because speed on gravel means nothing to a D4, especially with Llams at +30, but the 200 backed off because it was too rough!!

Toyota develops max torque about 600 revs lower than the D4.
I'm not questioning that stat but hasn't it been proven that the LC200 is on paper more powerful and has more torque but its ECU/drivetrain drinks up the 'advantage' .... which is why they are supposedly slower than a D4 in the real world ... as in being driven on the road.
It's a question.

Donkeys to Donkeys - the donkey wins, but its still 'just a winning donkey'.
Why would this be of any interest to anyone - really. how many Landrover Drivers pull up next to a Tojo at the lights and even consider the thought that you could blow this bloke to the weeds? if you have, your in the wrong vehicle for the current surge of testosterone.
For a start we do have speed limits in the real world and if your doing these speeds on dirt roads you could be a looney anyway - especially if its loaded with the full swag - we all know that dirt roads tend to be changeable.
There are plenty of other comparisons that actually mean something to the driver - albeit less than 1% of the driving experience (in actual Km's travelled).
I would be more interested to see what else they come up with, hopefully better than this lame stat.
apologies for my 2 bobs worth

If your under 30, in anything more than an automotive joke (A to B car), you'll get a hoon law thrown at you .. and have the car dismembered and inserted in your colon piece by piece.

I love nothing more than planting the foot off the lights, the sound of the V8 and the surge that comes from the twin turbo's is fantastic. If I can blow off a prado, landcruiser or patrol then why not. But once I have made my point and enjoy the power I generally settle back and just cruise

There was no wheel spin
The lane was adhered to
The speed limit was not breached

Next time your sitting next to a Hwy Patrol bloke at a set of lights (even if they are in an unmarked tojo)
Try this experiment.
Slam the pedal to the metal - but only up the speed limit.
WHEN the cop pulls you over and books you - in preparation for the insertion of metal parts - try saying
"Your just P__ed off because I beat you in the heap of crap your driving".
let us all know how you go.. lol
There are plenty of ways to make life interesting. Some of them are not the best option, but the roar of a v8 is very primal so who can resist.

Those V8 TD Q7s are super fast and amazing that engine although not very good off road i guess there made generally for thundering up the autobahns in Europe but still a fast car.
Although the D4s arnt super fast still a good rush when you give it a boot plus they can handle off road to!!

Im pretty sure they have a 5 suspension settings with the air suspension and I'm not sure how high it goes although its not to far off the D4 for clearance. I believe they have about 100L of fuel which i would love the D4s to get.
I know a friend with a Q7 who took it down on the beach for some fun and was quite surprised by it although i think he had the 18" rims with Goodyear Wranglers on it although i think that would be about as good as it gets they are no where near a D4 off road and i dont really think they market that way!! But that V8 TTD is a stinking great engine!!

Yep,forgot about that,it can fit 18" genuine rims,not like the D4.
No where near the room in it compared with a D4 either.

Nah I seriously looked into a Q7 before the D4 and the room inside is just cheap there is hardly any room in the front for storage and in the rear its so low even in the back seats you can't sit up like it would be kids only!!

I love my 2.7 RRS, but I have to laugh when people 'race' 4wd's. After all, no one really cares as long as they perform acceptably. I'm sure that's not just me? Just like I don't really care which out of a Porsche 911 or a Ferrari 458 italia would perform better on the Gibb River Road. You already know they're both going to suck.
My last car was a stage 3 B5 Audi S4 putting down ~366awkw. 0-100 in under 4 seconds and a quarter in the 11's - in an understated looking sport sedan, no gay spoilers or anything, no lumpy idle. For the stop light drag it would take nearly any car on the road by surprise, even supercars!
THAT was a blast.
In comparison I remember about a year ago I had an edge-of-the-seat race in the RRS up the freeway vs a Toyota Prius. I manually shifted to fourth because the autobox was holding third way too long and the diesel has no grunt up high. I think that's what lost me the race.

The big downside for the Disco is the weight. The 3.0 SDV6 is a great engine, but it is carting around some serious kilos. Will be interesting to see what happens with the next generation when it is gone on the RR diet. Should help the fuel economy too.
Just look at the performance of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and its great fuel economy, 8 speed gearbox like the Disco but a few hundred kilos less.
Meantime, I never met a kilowatt I didn't love. But if you want to go really fast, get a motorcycle or stay at home - apart from Rich84 and his supersleeper S4. Usually the lads in hot WRXs and whumpetty V8s get disposed of without even nearing redline.

Thats right the SDV6 is a sweet sweet engine and I'm agreeing there hopefully it gets some good weight shed off it and that really makes a big difference to performance and fuel economy!!
My mates Q7 is great on fuel and pretty slippery to when you stick the boot in and i think its like 170kw and 550nm cant remember he's got one of the first ones but it still feels like it wants to go!

Definitely agree there really to me performance isn't that big of an issue when buying a 4WD i had a TD 150 Prado Auto it was slow as but seemed to feel pretty acceptable when getting going.
As for the RRS i can imagine you would love the SDV6 3L they are so good to drive such a nice engine the torque is just so smooth and sweet i love it. I love giving it a boot away from the lights other than that it doesn't really bother me the speed.
Thats what i tried to tell my mate when he wants an SQ5 i said really its not that important i personally think it will be rough as crap for out back roads out in central QLD but anyway i said a Rangie Evoque would be great for what he needs long distance highway KMs although I've never been in an Evoque i imagine they would be pretty comfortable and smooth.

ha! yes this one was a conservative looking bloke driving. Both empty cars so I can't offer any excuses... the sun was in my eyes? Autobox was in the wrong gear? (it was...)
At the end of the day it's a relaxed car that likes being driven in a relaxed way. Not really an autobahn stormer! The 3.0 might be different, I've never driven it, but for the first time in my life I wasn't obsessed with power when buying my Sport - I could've had the SUPERCHARGED model for similar coin (2 years older though) but for what I wanted the TDV6 was the perfect option, or maybe the TDV8, but at that point they were $15K more and I didn't want to dish that out.
It's not like I need more demerit points anyway!
The Audi was fantastic, I had a ball with it and so now is the new owner. I sold it at the right time though. Can pick up a similar one for half the price or less now. I did a few trips from Adelaide to Cairns in it and realised that I needed something that was more suitable for that sort of thing, with longer range, way more room, good economy and most importantly, me not being worried if I hit a floodway in it, or bottoming out in road train ruts on some of the dirt roads around Aramac and Torrens Creek. Or the fact that the cast alloy sump was practically the lowest point on the car.
So yes it's funny you should mention central QLD! Love it out there, but the roads are at best, not great. At worst they are bloody awful. SQ5 might be great out there, but you seriously need some underbody protection, and the german stuff doesn't have it unless you buy an ML with the off-road pack (which there are NONE of second hand). RRS was the only car I looked at that adequately squared away my desire to do off-roading while also knowing that over 99% of my driving is on-road.
I may pick up another S4 if I find one cheap that needs work, someone's gotta keep those WRXs and EVOs in line!!

Each to their own and a number of the original comments in this fairly old thread were said tongue in cheek so there was no need originally for anyone to say people are stupid.
As for so called fast motorbikes that's no big deal either and in this conversation pretty much irrelevant, anyone today can buy a sub 0-100 4 second road bike for a few thousand dollars if they wanted to.
Actual fast road bikes do it in low 2's and the quarter in mid 9's in standard road registrable off the shelf trim. So 4's for a motorbike is actually now very slow.
Anyway back on topic, its obvious from this thread that all Disco and Rangie Sport owners need to watch out for those crazy racer Prius owners. ... ;)
