Hi
lights failed in old Headunit overtime..
so after research on the forum etc re ISO plugs and adaptors...
Bought a Fusion CA ML650BT Headunit
looks exactly like what I want
Mechless - Dust / Vibration
Blue tooth - phone and USB for IPOD and IPhone
Green backlight - even better!
playing around to fit today
thought I was being smart and it would fit straight in without extra connectors as it has 2 ISO female connectors in unit to allow for ISO male plugs to push in..
pull old unit out and there is not ISO plugs into the old Eurovox 5780R but a harness
but there are 2 ISO Plugs further back that plug into the radio Harness, a mustard one and a grey one .. not brave enough to plug into the Fusion unit without understanding what they are/ contain ?
Fusion details in here
http://www.fusionelectronics.com/content/product_downloads
Any Guidance would be appreciated
regards
Nobby

OMG, just whacked a fusion head unit into my D2. I cant believe how easy it was, it just plugged straight in, literally a 10 minute job.
nothing on a land rover is supposed to be this easy

Just a thanks to Nobby for posting this, about the FUSION 650BT.
After reading his post and some quick investigation, I went out and grabbed one from Super Cheap. They are on special for 2 weeks, down to $98 from $150.
I have just fitted one to my PUMA Defender.
What a great bit of kit for almost no money!! I am amazed at how good it is, given the price.
Now I have about 60 albums on a 8Gb SD card, so no more CDs for me. And, it BlueTooths to my Samsung S4 seamlessly for music + handsfree.
Cheers
David
Edit: Once I'd worked out how to get the old radio out, it was about 5 minutes to fit the new one. Defender plugs are identical to the FUSION plugs, so a complete no-brainer to fit.

A most dangerous thread :D:D:D
After Spudboy's heads up I decided to wander down to Super Cheap as well to get one for the Pulsar.
Ended up spending an extra $20 and getting the JVC KD-X310BT which was also on special at $118, mainly because I liked the ability for 2 bluetooth devices to connect simultaneously and it has a remote.
Literally only took 5 minutes to pull 2 panels off and undo 4 screws to remove the old stereo, another 5 to install the new stereo, plug in the ISO connectors, antenna and route the mic to above the steering wheel.
Switch on and nothing :mad:. A closer look revealed that there was no negative wire on the Nissan loom and a bit of googling confirmed that Nissan commonly grounds to the head unit, rather than through the loom.
Thankfully the Nissan Aerpro adaptor has bullet connectors on the +ve and -ve wires so I just crimped a female bullet connector and ring to a short piece of wire and connected directly to the the metal frame. Working beautifully now and sounds 200% better compared to the standard Nissan offering.
Cheers

I bought one of the Aldi mechless/ bt/sd/usb head units yesterday to try out but the loom supplied is not a full iso loom just bare wires.
Took it back this morning and going to get myself a Fusion CA ML650BT for not much more.
Are you guys still happy with them ? Not after a fully sik bro thumping stereo just a mechless unit with usb mp3 playback.

I have a Fusion CA-IP500 in my P38A. The iPod docks inside and is controlled by the knobs on the front of the Fusion.

Mine's still going strong. For the price, am still very happy with it. It's been 100% reliable, which is all you can ask for less than $100!

Not sure re max size
I use 8GB
photo on Fusion site shows a 12GB SD being loaded so must be at least 16GB - tried to attach
I have another one in a VW (VW brand) and it loads a 32GB card slowly!
initially I thought it wouldn't load but a few mins later all good ...Many CDs worth on that one!
cheers
Nobby!

I've picked up one of these for the D2a. For under $100 it ticks all the boxes except steering wheel controls ... I can learn to live without.
I like the fact that if your charging a phone via the USB you can still have a butt load of music available on the SD card.
Where and how have you all mounted the microphone for the in car hands free capability ?

Stuck my mic on the top of the steering column cover in front of the instrument cluster.
Much easier to get the wires there than up the A pillar.

sticks out top of A pillar trim;)
we upgraded to an Alpine last year,, bloody complicated play lists! play by folder etc,
so complicated I ended up sucking individual songs off the cds into one huge folder,(usb stick)
and 6gb equals around 1000 songs.
trouble is, set to random, the car breaks down (battery disconnection ensues) before a song repeats,
we may never hear them all!:D

Thanks!
32GB USB + 32GB SD + iPhone media = Stupid amount of music for in car use. :p
I have a 2TB USB drive with about 1.2TB of music to choose from. There's more stuff on this drive than I will ever listen to in a lifetime ... Then there's my CD collection ... :)
Hopefully I'll get the new head unit installed in a week or so.

Ok, 8 weeks, but who's counting ? :p
Easy install. Mic on top of steering column. Definitely better than the Visteon unit.
Streaming from my iPad sitting in the garage 20ft away from the disco listening to Ian Moss. Hands free phone works well.
For $100 it's a bargain.
Now, to fill up the iPhone, iPad, an SD card and a USB stick, and I'm set.
Time to take the CD case out of the glovebox. :)

The only annoyance i have is the folder's are numbered so you only know who it is when it starts playing.

I assembled my albums (58) onto a 4G Sd card. I named the folders "Artist - Album". When I put the SD card in, the albums are in the order they were copied to the SD card, so I copied the SD card the laptop, wiped the SD, then copied them back ... Now they're in alphabetical order ... Yes, the folders are numbered on the Fusion, but since the order is A to Z, if you set the folder name to display on the Fusion, when the first track starts it shows the Artists name as it starts to scroll ... Oh, that's Crowded House ... I want Stevie Ray .... click, click, click a bunch of times .... That's Queen .... click, click, click .... you get the idea ?? Not perfect, but certainly better. I'm going to change the 4GB to an 8GB for around 120 Albums permanently onboard :)
My annoyance is the Album/Track/Artist as displayed scrolls across the display. Not used to having scrolling text on the centre console. A bit distracting but I'll get used to it quick enough i guess.
For the USB stick Im just going to load mixed tracks, so I don't see the naming convention being an issue. I'd usually just set it to run set to random ... I think I'll have to folderize the mixed tracks due to the limit of files in the root folder .... Folder 1-Blues, 2-Rock, 3-Easy etc ... Random within a Folder, or All Folders Random ... should work nicley.

Thanks, been using an 8gig USB flashdrive but about to transfer the files to an 8gig SD card and then change the settings to folder name.
