There is an awesome looking black MY14 on the cover of the lift out for the 4WD show in this mornings West.
Belong to anybody on here???.
Love the rack, the wheels look different from GOE items, may be wrong. It has WA plates.
Cant find any pics of it on the net, perhaps somebody could scan a pic and post it.

Hi Andy,

Pick up the Oct '14 issue of 4x4 Australia. It is featured on pages 62-68. Very nice looking D4.

Andrew,

To fit those rims he ground down his calipers....something I certainly would not do.

They have the heat sink for a reason. In one of the magazines he confesses to this.

But yes it does look very nice.

In the article he mentions it is a 'Front Runner slimline roof rack'.

Thats stupidity.Wouldnt bother insuring it as they wont pay in event of a claim. If involved in a fatal accident the police will prosecute.
MADNESS!!!!

Yeah, I probably would have left that out of any interview!

LandyAndy, It belongs to a member on this forum, goes by the name of 4offroad. It is a very well set up vehicle indeed. I believe that the only grinding was shaving the knobs (top of the calliper) down by two mm and not the whole calliper? The roof rack I believe came from OL.

Here is a link to 4offroads D4 in the picture section, when asked he mentions that they have modified the callipers so as to fit 18" rims.

To say the least its a very nice looking D4 and I for one would be interested to find out if slightly modifying the calliper definitely 100% affects insurance and road worthiness.

Link goes to Page 20 of the photos thread - 4offroad's Disco is on Page 47 for those who are looking.

Andrew - the roofrack is the same as mine - looks a little different at the front, as it has the OEM side rails on the vehicle whereas mine doesn't.

I've seen the same rims fitted to other vehicles - was looking at a Jeep with a set on them recently - but never seen them on a Disco yet. Like Terry - I would be interested to know just how much modification to calipers was required to fit the rims, and whether this would affect safety / legality of the vehicle.

shaving the knobs (top of the calliper) down by two mm Knocked some of the casting burrs off the wings did he? If you compare the 3.0 D4 rear calipers with the 2.7s you will see a square extension added at each end that looks added to prevent fitment of 18" rims when fitted to the slightly larger discs and corresponding caliper brackets.

Neat looking vehicle!

Thanks for putting that link up, I forgot I have my forum pages set up in reverse so the newest comments are first, which also means the pages are in reverse. Which means any page link I put up only works if you have the same settings as me.

Don't ask me how I did it but its been like that since day one I joined the forum. ...

The mounting brackets / legs have changed since I bought mine Andrew - the new ones are lower. The rack is still the same though.

We found that out when we tried to buy an identical rack for Brendan's D4. You can no longer buy the same mounting / leg arrangement that I have on mine apparently (according to Steve at Lifestyle).

If you need any info on the new ones and how they mount, give Steve a call.

Brendan ended up getting a Rhino platform - the same as he had on his D3. He already had some lights & accessories that bolt directly to the Rhino Rack. Mine is still lower than his - I can "just" get in under the office without lowering the suspension, but the top of the rack lightly scrapes on the way out if I haven't lowered it. Brendan has to lower his both ways or the rack will hit on the building. He had a pair of small LED work lights mounted to the back of his roofrack and recently, when he had loaned his Disco to someone else in the office - the lights got wiped off.

If you compare the 3.0 D4 rear callipers with the 2.7s you will see a square extension added at each endHmm, not quite the situation - the square extension is on the brackets rather than the callipers and is not the problem. The early D4 aluminium callipers protrude radially by around 6mm more than the 2.7 callipers that were fitted to later D4s and retro-fitted to some early D4s to overcome the squealing in reverse.
