View Full Version : wheel alignment error

Hi All,

I did a rotation and fitted 2 new GT 19" tyres. The tyre Guy suggested the rear right side could not be brought into alignment with a camber error of 2.4 degrees is the best he could do. The spec is +/- 0.5. I asked him to review the requirements again and start from scratch and use the authorised alignment procedure.

There is no visible damage and no bent metal work that could be spotted that could result in such a large error and no adjustment corrected it.

Has anyone else experienced this before?

Regards

Gerald

No haven't heard that but had many alignments with people who seem to have no idea what they are doing!! Unless you trust this guy or is a known LR specialist seems odd.

The upper mount bolt on the rear upright is slotted. It is difficult to adjust live ( bloody hard to reach and loosen off, adjust and retighten ) as you generally have to take the wheel off, and take a stab at how much to move it, before aligning the vehicle.

I would guess your guy doesn't know the adjustment is there, or can see it is going to be bloody hard to get to, and has taken the easy way out.

and needs to be put in wheel alignment mode first ....

I had Bob Jane do mine once and they insisted they did not have to put it in wheel alignment mode and to give them a go. They did a crap alignment and I had to take it elsewhere as a result.

I always ask now if they have done a D3 before and if they hum and ha and don't know about wheel alignment mode I don't use them. Simples! squeechzkk

Gerald, you are not accepting PMs, so am replying here.

Depending on where you are in Melbourne, I can recommend someone on the East side of town who knows how to align D3's correctly, and is fastidious. He's also LR trained.

Let me know if you want the details.

Can anyone in Perth recommend a tyre shop for a great alignment on a D3? Had mine done by one of the big brands in Welshpool that do our fleet - not sure they got it right. Cheers.

Hi All,

Thanks for the good feedback. Will, I have in the past received PM, not sure what has changed. I shall check.

Bob Jane did the work, and I relentlessly hassled him about a proper process, which He indicated was conducted according to LR procedures. Maybe certain franchise workshop mechanics are lacy!

I am happy to go anywhere in Melb to ensure it is right. I live in 8Km north from CBD

My trusted LR service dealer is Lance Dixon, I was thinking of going back to Bob Jane or is it Goodyear across the road who, I think do all their tyre work anyway. I would assume they should have the process pat down. But, as stated, will travel to get the results needed.

Please check with other members first incase I have it wrong.

I tried Bob Jane Cannington, they do all Roadbends Jaguars and have the euro equipment and wheel aligners who can translate euro spec to Aus spec conditions.

Not sure if this is the Bob Jane that was referred to earlier though. Ben.

Arranged a booking with My LR service provider to specifically address the perceived alignment error. I hope that it is an error on Bob Jane's part and they were slack and quick to take my money.

Happy to report back soonish.

For me this was a record pit stop for what I had considered a basic wheel alignment. Total recal and reset, 3.5 hrs on the alignment rack, all fixed and back to factory spec.

For me this serves Is a lesson learnt, your basic franchise is pretty average, actually well below average. I am also going to get my Wife's golf re-checked, as I no longer trust the local Bob Jane.
