Depending on how their policy is worded you may be stuck non-genuine.
Note that you'll need the fitting kit (OEM).
Windscreen should be like for like - meet the same specifications... If it doesn't you may have some grounds there..

My insurer did a similar thing so after much discussion I obtained a genuine screen and they gave me what they would have paid for their chinese screen and fitting ... PITA but one chinese screen was quite enough for me ... "reading the fine print fail" on my part.
Mine did not accept that their chinese screen was not to the specification of Pilkington Optikool ... which seems self evident but anyway I lacked energy to pursue that as I was semi content with the ultimate outcome.

Got crack in mine which grow as I watched it. Called the dealer and the replacement was over $1,500. The insurers insisted on using a well known replacement company that wanted to use a Chinese heated screen. After discussion in the end I decided to just pay the money as i didn't want cury lines in the screen. The insurance co said I'd have to pay the difference - over $1,000. I submitted the claim - and without a mention to me - paid the whole lot. How about that!:)

Do you have auto wipers???
If so you may be in luck.
I recently ordered a windscreen for our prime mover at work, they said if it has rain sensors it will need to be a genuine screen.Truck doesnt,we dont have free windows at work, and they seem to bust 3 a year so its aftermarket.
GOODLUCK

We've recently been through something similar trying to get the screen in my grand fathers D4 replaced (it's a country car), insurance replaced it with non-genuine through O'Briens. As a result the auto wipers ceased to work... Quite a few phone calls were exchanged with both Land Rover and the insurer, the result was that they had to replace it with a genuine pilkington screen and associated parts. No problems since.
We had to source the genuine screen too... costs were covered.
Not as easy as dealing with the old D2's :p

Do you know the reason why ? Are the sensors in the windscreen ?

Rain sensor is up where the mirror mounts on my D4,looks to be in the glass.

Hi Ade,
I had an after market windscreen fitted by o'briens under insurance 3 years ago and it's been fine. No curvy glass and now has about a dozen chips in it so I'll probably be replacing it again. The rear window is a completely different story, even they guys who fit the rears will tell you not to fit after market as they don't fit properly and on corrugated road have a tendency to fall out or crack.
Mine has the auto sensing wipers

I've had a similar conversation with my insurance company, after an animal strike it was replaced with a genuine screen, then when I got a chip/crack they did not want to replace with a genuine screen. I went onto argue that my vehicle has never been crash tested with an after market screen and I refuse to put it in. They said to use the dispute policy if I wasn't happy with their decision which I did and got a genuine screen in the end with a note saying they may not do so in future, my response was I may not insure with you in future.

Im wit NRMA and just read my policy they may replace with a non genuine screen, up for a new one so see what happens. Ive been with suncorp on other cars and read their policy and they dont say anything about non genuine so i may change back to them! Seeing how NRMA go with replacing this screen.

I cracked a windscreen after only having the car for 2 weeks, our insurance has unlimited windscreen & glass replacement. I asked for a genuine LR windscreen given its was only two weeks old & I wanted to keep the car original.
The insurers agreed & a new windscreen was put by O'Briens, happy Chappy.

Here is a post from Oct 2013 'Windscreen Cracked' thread which I am chucking into the mix just give another perspective:
Been there 4 times
My D4 was purchased new in Sep 2011. In the first 18 months of ownership I was 'lucky enough' to have 3 broken windscreens. In the last part of my second year I again got lucky and broke windscreen No 4. I think that makes me 'experienced' at doing the D4 windscreen!
As for the insurance, RAC covered 2 out of the 4 replacements and in that process we did have 'deep and meaningful' discussions on the OEM vs Non OEM windscreens as replacements. I always insisted on OEM and in those that they funded, to their credit they paid out. The RAC insurance PDS does clearly allow them to use non OEM bits if they wish. The last windscreen was self funded and I was a bit over the whole thing and went with what the local supplier had in stock. (Subject of another post in a different Windscreen thread which eludes me at present.)
Now having had the elcheapo brand in place for the last 6 or so months, travelling the same roads and having had a few stone strikes I am just begining to think the non OEM screen may just be a bit more robust!
Imagine that!
Most of the breaks that I had experienced were as discribed by others in that they were roughly at the centre base of the windscreen and on one occasion the 'stone' was very very small indeed.
Maybe, just maybe the LR OEM screen just isnt much chop?:(
As of today the Elcheapo screen is still going strong, albeit with a number of stone chips and strike marks! As for the Optikool thing, when its hot here its hot! In my view you would struggle to tell the difference without some measuring device between the original and the generic product. At this time I would struggle to recommend the OEM glass over the generic product especially given the price and in my case, performance differential but each to his or her own. ;)

So got onto the insurance company, three calls later, they agreed to factory landrover windscreen. I said I want original with the auto wiper sensor. They agreed, said they only replace sensor wiper windscreens with factory windscreen. Otherwise trouble. They had to wait to email the assessor to ensure my car came as standard with auto rain wipers. If I hadn't of pushed the point, They would've gone el cheapo on my behalf. Really, what does it cost them to do it proper like

We run about 100 LC troppies, non Oz spec. Last few years OEM glass has got thin and nasty, aftermarket much better, maybe Oz std?

That's a bid odd getting thinner as most front windscreens form part of the cars rollover strength, so if anything they should be getting thicker ?
But a troopie is a different story I suppose as they probably wouldn't be pushed hard enough to fall over.
I have seen a cracked 200 series glass that has been removed....it is very thick.

You only have to compare a D2 screen to a D4,the D4 is definitely thinner.

Trying to reduce the weight of the vehicle - glass is heavy

I know a lot of people that swear the 6 is better than the V8... myself included (we have a 1HD-FTE with coils up front, I can understand why they don't sell many defender utes anymore :p ).
To keep it OT, my D2 has a good half a dozen decent stone chips in the screen (original) the D4 one seems to smash every time!
