Hi guys I have obtained a correct 1950 date stamped carbi for my "shed find" 80" to replace the holden one that it has fitted my question is can any one recommend some one that can over haul or rebuild it? It doesn't seam to have a lot of ware but I would rather have it checked out before I fit it?
Thanks

I had one rebuilt for my '88 a few years ago by Duel Fuel in Caboolture. Don't know if the still exist.

They did a good job, even making a new jet to replace a wrong sized one.

There's a bloke in Dubbo does carby overhauls - I don't have any experience of his work, but I got a quote from him to overhaul the Zenith on my 2a, and decided that a new one was cheaper - and replaced the coil, fixing my "carburettor" problems anyway! Let me know if you want his details.

I saw NEW Series 1 carbs advertised in this month's LRO IN UK for about GBP110.

G'day Lost Landy,

I recently had my '49 carby re-built/serviced by Carburettor Service Co. in Sydney. Great job and very happy, works perfectly. It took about 2 weeks including postage and cost approx. $320 including freight.

Hope this helps mate.

If that was my problem of the carby over fueling, I would try to compensate by dropping the float level slightly by fitting a thicker washer between the needle valve and the cover.

Otherwise, getting the correct size jets fitted by a specialist is the only option left.

Just a thought, if you make up a oxygen sensor coupled to a meter, that could be temporarily be fitted while you experiment with the different jet sizes and settings, it would then allow you to monitor changes without the expense of using a workshop with analytical equipment.

That's still his number. He is in King St Caboolture up the Wamuran end. Very nice bloke to deal with.

Preaching to the converted and knowledgeable no doubt but all Series 1's run the same carby albeit with different jet sizes. The 1.6 has a smaller venturi also. I have the jet sizes written down somewhere, but someone has my Series 1 manual (Glen)? ;)
