Gday All,

Has anyone bothered to try cleaning the EGR valves at all. After seeing the condition the Y piece is in and the amount of gunk in it, I am wondering if the Valves should be cleaned as well.

Maybe I should leave sleeping dogs lie.

Cheers Ean

Hi Ean,
If you do attempt the cleaning of the EGR valves may I wish you the very best of luck. If you are going to take them off to clean them might I suggest you fit new ones, you can get them cheap enough from the UK.
When you do the one on the left hand bank make very careful note of where the dipstick tube goes, you have to take the tube out to get the EGR valve off. I dearly wished I had taken a more careful note of the route it took down the side of the engine. Photographs etc.
Yours is an 08 so the EGR valve has to go back............

Gday , The carbon that leaves the egr valve is a dry black powder sort of stuff like the inside of exhaust pipe , it,s when it mixes with the oil vapour in the inlet it turns to the wet sludge gunk that you see , so don't think the crap inside the egr valve would be as bad as the air inlet part that you can see . I wouldn't wake the dog .
